(Although, to be fair, the draft left Montréal before he came along).

How about listen to on the Radio or watch it on TV?
Maybe your team will move up in the Draft.
The Flyers gave up their First Round Draft pick today.
If you live in Canada you can watch it on TSN but no where in the States as I no of.

Claude Julien's found a new job with the Bruins. I'm really glad for him, even though he's butt ugly and speaks rather badly... he's a brilliant coach (part of the NHL elite, for sure) and a nice guy, so I'm really glad he's getting another chance.

Actually they didn't, they gave Nashville back its first round pick (#23 overall), which the Flyers acquired in the Forsberg deal, for the rights to Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnel. Both players were then signed to long term deals.

The Flyers still have their own 1st rounder, #2 overall.

Considering the moves the Flyers have made since they imploded last season, I don't think it will be very long at all before they are a very competitive team again.

Oh, no doubt, and I can even see them back in the playoff hunt next season with the moves they have made (Biron, Parent, Hartnell, Timonen) in addition to the core they already had with Gagne, Knuble et al.

I saw that. They did give up a 1rd Draft Pick anymore. Theirs other teams in the running to. We have to wait and see how the Offseason plays out.

6-year deals, to be exact, worth $6.3 million per year for Timonen and $4.2 million for Hartnell.

Anybody else think they overpaid? $6 million plus for Timonen might not be horrible now, but they owe him that until he's 38. Hartnell should be now locked in for his prime years, but the real question is what those prime years are really worth; he is 25 and yet to break the 50 point mark in a season. Either the Flyers really trust these guys or they really trust the cap going up every year.

Oh the cap IS going up. In a few years the numbers will be right back to where they were before the new CBA "saved" the NHL.

Well good to see going on strike for a whole year really made a big difference.

And to answer your question yes they did overpay. I wonder in a few years if the Flyer fans will actually wish that Clarke was back running the show instead of whoever is in their now?

It may a bit on the high side for Timonen, but he's a solid defenseman with good speed and can quarterback the PP. He's also good in his own end and has the tenacity to dish out big hits.

Hartnell is a power forward and if he can avoid any more concussions will be worth every penny of that contract. Quite possible you'll see him as a Selke Trophy nominee in the not too distant future.

There's always a risk when you sign a player to a long term deal. Outside of guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby (too name a very select few), there are no sure fire guarantees. The Flyers have plenty of cap room and no wheres to go but up. Both these guys would have gotten as much or more on the FA market this summer. Somebody's always going to over pay for a player, the question for GM's is, am I prepared to be the one?

The draft is also shown on RDS yearly, I don't see why it wouldn't be so again this year.

It all sounds like Timonen except the boldfaced part -- he's listed as 5'10", just under 200 lbs (and unless he's grown some since he played for the local team in the mid-90s, that 5'10" is, if anything, a tad optimistic). He's very strong for his size, but he is a pretty small guy for an NHL defenseman.

Hmm... it seems like I'm on my way to Australia when the draft starts. Somehow I doubt the Brisbane Courier-Mail covers the NHL draft...

Yeah, plus, a big body is not a necessity to be a big bodychecker. The "big hits" guy on the Canadien is listed at 5'9". See him knock Wellwood down (at the 1-minute mark for the best view).

I'd be in town for the Brisbane Blue Tongues home game against the Adelaide Avalanche on July 7th.

BTW, I notice that the Blue Tongues leading scorer is Matt Amado, who has 21 goals and 12 assists for 33 points -- in 8 games. Who knows, I might actually go and watch a game. If I can find someone who can tell me where the arena is, that is.

That would take my "how many leagues have you seen play live" number to a whopping 4.
