Hi, Help with Purchase Please
Can you buy this game in any stores. I have dial-up
and the download is over 70 meg. .However, if my only option is to download, will the demo download be 2.02 or do I download the 2.01 demo, then the patch????? Any help appreciated. Oh, BTW, does it have a PBP mode, or sim only???? Thanks. |

I can answer only a couple of your questions.
First, I know you can get the game on CD. Click the WebStore link on the top right of this page and scroll down. You have to order the game and pay extra for the CD, however. Second, the game offers a variety of play styles: solo, hot seat, online; in-game play vs. simulation; fictional, historical and a blend of the two. Go to http://www.ootpbaseball.net and click "The Game" to find out what it's about. Don't miss the game reviews. As far as your other questions, I hope a moderator or some other more knowledgeable person will log on later or tomorrow in order to answer them. |

I don't believe that you can but the game in any stores. As for the d/l speed, i would suggest going to a public library and (using a flash drive) d/l the game. I believe that the game is ready to go and will not need any patch updates. It does have PBP mode. i hope you enjoy the game.

You can play pitch by pitch, if you like.
Or one pitch mode...that is you just get the play results and don't see every pitch at each at bat. Or sim. You can't buy it in stores. |

I would take a look at this site: http://web.mac.com/sixwilsons/iWeb/OOTPMods/Main.html because he has collected a lot of very nice mods. http://www.baseball1.com/statistics/ ...and go to that link, and get a copy of Lahman database 5.4 in the comma delimited version. I suggest looking at some stuff at home on dial up, make a plan on what to download, and find a way to use high speed internet at another location to download stuff. I hope you enjoy the game. |

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I've been reading these forums and it sure sounds like an awesome game. So, if someone could answer one last question. If I purchase the CD through Webstore will THAT be the final patched version??? As you can see, I am trying to avoid DL. Went to the library in my small town, and they told me the only way I could download and store something was to purchase their disks, AND I'M NOT TALKING CD's!!! She was talking about 3 1/2 inch disks
. Nah, I don't think so.Oh, sorry, one other question. Why would I need to DL the Lehman Database??? You mean it doesn't include that??? Was this sold to just be fantasy players??? |

However, I can tell you that the Lahman Database is excellent (as are, I understand, the ones developed by our own members) and has the added benefit of being available on CD: http://baseball1.com/statistics/cdrom.html For another $16, of course. Sorry to keep spending your money.

Lahman is not included. However, it is free. It will allow you, if you want to, play any season(s) from 1901-2006. In my opinion, it is a must for a newbie to check out the historical side. |

It's only 6MB to download, not bad over dial-up Internet access, so Raidergoo's advice is right - get it for free. I have found Lahmans to be very comprehensive and easy to work with in this, my first year of tentative historical play.

Hey guys, thanks again for all the help. I know I said just one more question but it seems one more leads to another, which leads......
Anyway, all set to go ahead and order the CD, but while I'm online today just want to get straight what I should DL (reasonable). I noticed the 500 page manual is 19.1 gig. That would be a little over an hour (I think) but doable. (Anyway to get that on the CD???) Also, the Lahman database is certainly doable. Although as an owner of Baseball Mogul I think I already have that but will DL just to be sure. Most importantly, which version will be on the CD??? Should I DL the 2.02 patch?? The 2.01 patch and the 2.02 patch? Geez, sorry guys, I guess I'm really being a pain. You know the ***** of it is, I have tried several times to get DSL from Verizon (Not available). Cable company wants $60 month just for cable internet, and DirectTV (of which I'm already a subscriber) requires an initial $500 equipment purchase and then $40 a month. DSL, while slower than cable is MUCH faster than dial-up and Verizon is currently offering it for $14.95 a month. Just for grins I called and tried again when I saw that commercial. Man, and this is Loudoun County VA, supposedly one of the fastest growing counties in the country, albeit I am on the western (rural) end of the county. Sorry for length. My version of the manual is at 16.4 megs (not gigs, you had me scared for a second!), so I'd say just download it while doing something else. I have no idea whether or not it's included with the CD.
As for which version will be on the CD, I can't help you. That seems like something that someone involved with the game will have to answer. Lots of questions is never a pain, most of us are always glad to help a new member of the community discover this franchise of games. |
