International Scouting pools

Every nation has a set number of hidden players ready to be scouted when the game is created (these are the players that are in players.dat but not in the csv exports - their ID's are also stored against each nation in the world.dat )

Do these pools get refilled and if so, how and when? I can see that there are 3 players waiting to be found in Afghanistan - when they've been found and signed for example, will another 3 players appear there at some point?

There's two ways.

One is to compare the players.dat file to the exported players.csv and the players that are in the first but not in the second are hidden (there must be a flag somewhere in the record that I haven't decoded yet to make this easier to find)

The other is in the world.dat file.

What I have done is added an International Scouting tab to my Stadium, Teams and Player importer which lists all the players who are waiting to be found!

Great question. I was also wondering what nations(if any) are historically better to scout. Mexico and Japan, I would imagine. Any others that are recommended?

The pool of international players certainly gets replenished. I've been playing a sim where I only sign international players 18 and under. I sent, in 2007, scouts to Canada, DR, Puerto Rico and Japan, and found quite a few kids in the first three years. After three years had passed, for seven years subsequent I did not find a single player under 19- most were old. At the end of 2016, ten years in, I reassigned the scouts to new countries, and again began finding lots of 16-18 year olds (who surely were not generated when I created the game). I concluded that either

-when a scout is assigned to a country, he will only ever be able to find the players who are there when he is first assigned; i.e. he won't be able to find newly generated players;

or

-the year in which I reassigned my scouts was coincidentally roughly the same time when the game replenished the hidden player pool.

There is also the possibility that I was very unlucky, and did not discover any 18 years olds for seven years, but this seems very unlikely considering how many other players I found. If option no. 2 is correct, the player pool gets replenished every 8-10 years.

I'm curious about the numbers of hidden players in each country; I've assumed in the past that this is correlated only with baseball quality in the country, and not with population (a conclusion I came to after finding several players in Aruba, a country of 50,000 people). If that's the case, I'd guess that all nations of 'Excellent' baseball quality are essentially equal. I've had the best results from scouting Canada and the Dominican, but that's based on such a small sample that it's probably meaningless.

I really have to start looking at the export files to see what's going on, instead of speculating so much...

My importer program (link in Mods) has a screen that will display who's out there and which country they're from. Seems to be three at least in each country.
