Beta Baseball going into its 19th season!

We've been around since 2002, and due to our recent conversion to OOTP 2007, we have five openings. We are a 12-team fictional league, using 4-man rotations on a 156-game schedule, and playing with talents only. We have all sorts of different teams, I'll try to briefly describe them.

1. Westness Gladiators. They are the dominant force in Beta Baseball, and have been for a long time. They are two-time defending champions, and despite an aging core, they are still favorites. In addition to the strongest rotation in their division (with all-stars Albrecht Poldermans, Peter Gabriel, James Hansen and Derrick Hazeltine), they field a bunch of solid sluggers like Richard Labbé, Frank Moore, Troy Ward, Garth Kaczmarek and one of the best hitters to ever play the game, Emile Nelligan. Well, okay, you don't know any of these names yet, but trust me, this is one great team. It also has very deep pockets. The only problem is that it's a really, really old team. I think this team's renewal can be an interesting challenge.

***taken*** 2. Skojpp Bombers. If you want a competitive team, but you don't want the division title to be in the bag like with the Gladiators, you might want to try the Bombers. Sure, they've won their division twice in a row now... although both times they were, by pythagorean record, second by 8 games. The only team in the league that has close to real-life modern statistics (the rest of the league is more pitcher-oriented) due to a hitter-friendly park, it's home to some of the best hitters in the game. Louis-Philippe Lapicerella is pretty much all you can ask for in a SS, while William Montmartre is a total freak of nature, some sort of good Dave Kingman, who leads the league in just about half the hitting categories. He's also well complemented by another good hitter, Aart Stuckenschmidt, and with the league's top closer, Pietje Vogt. They also have a wide array of decent young players such as 3B Benno Larouche, and SP Jim Brickhouse. A very solid, well-balanced team that has a solid chance at winning the title. ***taken***

***taken*** 3. Proletarian Knot Sfeer. If I had to pick a team, that's the one I would take. Adrian Hirsch, defending batting champion Daniel Antol and two-time defending MVP Melchior Martins are three very young players forming the core of this infield, and are some of the best players you'll encounter in Beta. They're decently surrounded by a young pitching staff, and some young outfielders. They need to improve certain areas before being a force in their division, but with only one decent player over 28 years of age, the future belongs to these guys. ***taken***

4. Lennongrad Coléoptères. This Beatles-based franchise isn't as glorious as the Fab Four. Oh, it used to be, but it's dropped significantly since these glory days. In the positional strength chart, their best ranking is 4th (out of 12 teams). They were the worst hitting team in their league last season. What used to save them was their pitching, led by the 1-2 punch of Ian Worang and Gary Mattingly. However, with Worang, one of the three best pitchers in the history of the game, hitting free agency and with no one being able to come close to replacing him well, how will this team respond? If you want a challenge... then you're served.

5. George Falls Barons. A former glorious franchise turned into absolute nightmare. Another challenge. Not better than 5th at any position, a thin minor league system, these guys are in deep trouble. It breaks my heart to describe it further, this team is very sad. Serious rebuilders only .

6. The Pines Verts. An abysmal team. They have three very good SP prospects aged 18, 19 and 21, but other than that, they're not in very good shape.

So, if you're interested in any of these teams, please let me know. You can PM me, or email me: jean**AT**betabaseball.com. You can also visit our web site at www.betabaseball.com, and check out html files and these teams' rosters at www.betabaseball.com/html. For anything else, I'll be glad to answer whatever question you might have.

After several seasons-- this is a nice league-- good commish. You can start at the top or pick a more challenging team.

If you like to play with talents only, I can say that no one who has ever had to leave the league has ever done so due to negative stuff happening in the league - they were all either not going to upgrade to the next version of OOTP, or stopped playing OOTP altogether.

If you've never played with talents only, I'd like it if you at least considered it. It's a much different experience, and requires you to look more into players' statistics, which has three major benefits that I can think of. First, it makes you get to know the players better, since you have to dig a bit deeper than just looking at his ratings. Second, it is much more realistic and mirrors what a real life experience would be like. Third, if you think you're a good GM, I think it's a better way to prove it, since it requires more analysis and it's more challenging. However, it can also be much more rewarding, I think.
