Just right off the top of my head...

The lad with the #1 on his jersey is right now in the finals for Ottawa.

There's also Jerome Iginla, picutred in the centre below playing for Team Canada. He's presently captain for the Calgary Flames.

Had to look this guy up to see if he was still playing, but also the New York Rangers backup goalie Kevin Weeks.

And my fiancees fav player, Donald Brasher. Why I honestly dont' know, but he's still out there kicking ass and taking names. Hard to argue with a guy that takes sparring lessons from Joe Frazier.

So ther'es four just off the top of my head that are presently playing in the NHL. I'm sure ther'es more.

Southampton are my football team, so it's not surprising. I'd have guessed Shearer over The Weaver for a Toon supporter.

Le Tissier converted an incredible 48/49 penalties in his career. Any idea who saved that lone goal? Don't be cross with yourself, if your answer is off the mark, as it wouldnt be the norm for a Toon fan to know.

Mark Crossley

To be fair, I probably wouldn't have known that if I hadn't done some reading about 'Le God' over the last few years, but it is easier to remember being something of a fan.

Crossley is also famous for being the first player to score an own goal in the Premiership. But, I like better his record for being the only keeper, other than Dave Beasant (another from Forest), to save a penalty in an FA Cup final.

Crossley also has the same number of caps as the criminally low total of Le Tissier, a scant eight.

Baseball

I idolized Lou Piniella growing up. Not a superstar by any means, but he always gave 100% on the field and he always seemed to come through in the clutch. Beacuse of him, my favorite # is 14 and he's even the reason why I even picked my confirmation name of Louis.

Football

I'd have to say Emmitt Smith. I wasn't really into football until after I married a Packer fan, so I didn't really watch in earnest until the early 90s. Those Cowboys teams were a lot of fun to watch, and Emmitt was the heart and soul of those teams.

Basketball

John Starks. Not really sure why as I never was into basketball much. I used to watch the playoff games when the Knicks had their playoff runs and Starks would always seem to be in the mix.

Hockey

Mike Bossy. The center of a great Islanders team. Since the Islanders have stunk for so long, it's very hard for me to get into hockey now.

Probably Nolan Ryan. When I was in my teens one of the scouting reports that I got was "Has Ryan-like intensity on the mound. Bliding fast fastball and good movement. Needs to work on control before he kills someone." I guess his pitching style wore off on me. Also was into Tony Fernandez, Carleton Fisk, Joe Carter (cant' argue with the author of the best WS ender ever), and I'm sure I've forgotten a few. Haven't had any since '94, now it just casually follow the team.

Football:

Payton. No question. First game I ever watched was his game that he beat Brown's rushing record. For the next few years I was probably into football as much as baseball. Dont' really know why it faded away to be honest.

Basketball:

None. Never really got into the sport.

Hockey:

Mostly goalies really. Patrick Roy, Bill Ranford, Andy Moog, Grant Fuhr and the like. as the years progressed, guys that both had talent and could hold their own as well came to mind. Iginla and chara are two that come to mind right away. Much like baseball though the strike really dropped my following of the game, although only a serious wound instead of a near fatal blow.

NASCAR:

Richard Petty when he was still going, Bill Elliott, and Dale Earnheart before every redneck hopped on the bandwagon. That was another sport that like football just seemed to fade away.

Piniella had 17 sac flies and one HBP in 104 at bats with the bases loaded.

OBP is H/BB/HBP divided by AB/BB/HBP/SF.

Kiki was the first draft pick, 11th overall, of the expansion Dallas Mavericks, but refused to play for us and demanded a trade. Smart move on his part because he would play on 12 playoff teams in his 13 year career.
