The bay area teams got rid of a couple bad relievers this weekend.

I have $$$ on the sox. The A's have blown some chances
Serious question though and I dont say it to be mean. How does Oakland scratch together so many wins with this line up? Last edited by jbergey22; 06-05-2007 at 01:49 AM. |

This team is hovering around 500, now two games over, and they've been the epitome of anti-clutch batting. Lots of double plays, hardly any 2 out hits, ect. If multiple batters get hot, this team will be devastatingly good.

Just taking a look at some of their offensive rankings in MLB: - Bottom third in batting average (.252) - Bottom third in runs scored (241) - Bottom third in slugging % (.390) - DEAD LAST in MLB with RISP (.229) But... - Tops in the American League (second in MLB behind SD) in ERA (3.34) - Haren (1.70) and Gaudin (2.41) are #1 and #3 in the AL in ERA |

dola,
Maybe I'm imagining it, but it seems there is a lot less manager bitching going on this year. Yes, it's only June, but how many Ken Macha rants would we have had in this thread by now? Just think, Kendall would still be batting leadoff, Chavez would be hitting third and Swisher would be hitting seventh... ![]() I think Bob Geren is doing a hell of a job with what he's been given. To Bob -

In May, Oakland had Cust, Johnson, and Swisher raking. There's just a ****load of dead wood in the A's lineup.

Lucky for the A's they have the pitching to make up for some of that. So if they could actually score three or four runs a night on a regular basis, they could be extremely good. It's going to take some luck for the right guys to be hot at the same time. |

And defense, probably the best in MLB.

dola,
Oops, Swisher is actually striking out less this year (one every 4.3 AB) than last year (one every 3.7 AB). I read it totally backwards. So, he's getting better in every way! |

I checked out the DER numbers at BB Prospectus and the A's are ranked second behind only the Mets.
