Keyshawn Johnson: Hall of Famer?

Quote:
Keyshawn Johnson was a tremendous NFL wide receiver for a number of years, with his peak coming early in his career when he was arguably the best player at his position in 1998-99. He will serve as the prototype "possession receiver" in comparisons for years to come. If I could get a quarter for every time an analyst will compare a draft prospect to Keyshawn over the next decade, I'd end up with enough money to get a 'do from Mel Kiper's stylist.

Johnson was a hell of a player, simply put, but he was not a Hall of Famer. Especially if Art Monk--the original ultimate possession receiver--is not one...

What you guys think?

If Art Monk isn't in the hall, than Keyshawn isn't.

I don't think that his statistics warrant inclusion in the HOF.

Three time Pro-Bowler
64 receiving TDs (#44 all-time), with just one year of 10+ and not more than six in any of his last six seasons
Just one year in the top five (#4) in receptions
Never in top five in receiving yards or receiving TDs
15th in all-time receptions, behind guys like Larry Centers, Irving Fryar and Keenan McCardell
23rd in receiving yards
2 TDs in 7 postseason games - not exactly the team's go-to guy

I am not well-versed in any advanced statistical metrics for football, so maybe he shines in some of those, but I never thought of him as the best receiver in football in any year.

I'd vote no.

Excellent wide receiver, but not quite good enough for the hall.

Footballoutsiders.com has ratings for the last 7 years of his 12 year career. They are unimpressive.

Good thing this wasn't a poll.

Certainly not.

He's one of those guys that has had a career that has been both underrated and overrated at certain points, but.. none of his career is even remotely HOF worthy.
