Poll: What should I do for an Arizona League dynasty 'spin-off'?
I created my Arizona League: Real Players. Fictional Teams dynasty last summer and for the past 19 seasons I've basically simmed, watched and reported on all the happenings, trying to create some back stories along to way to keep it interesting.
Well, I've decided that, at least for awhile, I want to get in the game. Beginning with the 1920 season, I want to either take over a franchise or maybe begin a managerial career, something that would allow me to have a more hands-on approach in the league I've grown to really enjoy so much. Maybe it will be for the short-term or maybe I'll do it for the next 50 seasons. I've been kicking around several story lines for my dynasty-within-a-dynasty idea for several weeks (while waiting for my poor computer to get back from the repair shop). I plan to continue posting yearly updates and such in the main Arizona League thread linked above. But I also plan to start a second thread that will go hand-in-hand with that one, but will go in more detail on a team or manager, etc. Hopefully it will a fun read and new challenge. Anyways, here are the options I'm sifting through now as listed in the poll above: 1. Take over the Northern League's worst franchise, which has just moved to a new city. Since almost the beginning of the Arizona League in 1901, Sedona has had one of the worst teams. They've only made the playoffs I think once, and it's been a long time. The franchise has just been "sold" (or was it really sold?) to a George Steinbrenner type named Clyde Cooley, who is bringing the club to his town of Show Low and trying to turn it into a champion. I've already set up this story line some in my posts the past few seasons. 2. Try to build the Tombstone Epitaphs into a contender in the Southern League. Like Sedona, Tombstone has been a bottom feeder for most of its existence, though the Epitaphs play in the Southern League. This band of lovable losers reminds me of the Chicago Cubs for some reason. I love their franchise name, though I can't take credit for it. Apparently, this was the name of an old newspaper in Tombstone. This dynasty thread would be an attempt to turn the Epis into a powerhouse in the Southern League. 3. Take the "Yuma Challenge" During a long night at the saloon, the owner of the Yuma Prisoners did something he really regretted the next morning. He boasted that his team would win an Arizona League championship in the next three seasons or else he'd make the entire team wear pink uniforms until they did. A local reporter, who happened to be at the saloon that night, put it all in writing a day later for the Yuma News. Being a prideful man, the Yuma owner now is having to stick by his words. The next Prisoners' manager will be entrusted with accepting the 'Pink' challenge. 4. Begin a managerial career Instead of taking over a team, I would introduce a human manager into the league. I've already got one idea brewing here (Sam Crawford, the AZL's most feared hitter, wants to get into managing). This way, I wouldn't have to stay with one team necessarily. I could bounce around from team to team if I wanted to. 5. Something else If anyone else has ideas, let me hear them... Thanks for stopping by AZ

I like three and four the best. The best thing about four is depending on who wants a manager when Wahoo Sam is out there, you can end up with combined scenario of either one and two and four.
Your dynasty is one of my favorites on here. |
