I'd be interested in discussing with others how best to modify the injuries.txt and off-field injuries files to simulate modern-day baseball. I've got my own modified version, with steroid, amphetamine and narcotics suspensions, DUI arrests, and other things, but my games have become more like episodes of The Shield than like baseball simulations. Steroid suspensions are hard to implement- they should be off-field injuries, but it is difficult to control frequency and severity of off-field injuries. Anyway, if anyone else is interested in talking this out, start a new thread and I'll chime in.

There's a list of players who began the year on the minor league DL here:

www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=144

I doubt anyone will care about minor leaguers who missed 5 games to start the year, but some prospects will likely miss the season, e.g. Sean West, SP (FLA), Christian Garcia, P (NYY), Mark Melancon, RP (NYY), J Brent Cox, RP (NYY), Brad Lincoln, SP (PIT), and many others. I'm happy to do a bit of research to find out who else is out for a long stretch of time- has anyone else done this, and how complete are the minors in this set?

Thanks to everyone who is working on this- this community is amazing.

wow, this roster set is going to be deep.... perhaps too deep lol. I'll be afarid to touch it for fear I might mess up this perfect roster set. Looks like it's going to be the best yet. Keep up the good work, we're all waiting paitently.

Minors are complete -- anyone who is on a roster this year from the Majors all the way down to Rookie Ball is in there -- so if there was a long term injury, we can implement it.

I agree about five day injuries, but like the ones you mentioned, I think its certainly important for us to get anything more than 2-3 weeks perhaps in there for the minor leaguers, especially the big prospects (who have had TJ for example).

Current injury file is frusterating because there is a lack of actual "real" injuries, as guys don't really have things like broken noses, etc. all that often. I suppose we could just list steroid suspensions as "No diagnosis given" or whatever it is labeled as, but it'd be nice to have it pop up in game every once in a while with an injury.txt that we could distribute with the roster pack.

Other than injuries what's left to add to the file?

Ack! Don't think it is immediately immanent! We still have some rating work to be done on the MLB/AAA levels and renaming of some managers, but we have two people working on those so they shouldn't go as slowly as normally.

Also the scrubs in the lower minors (AA and lower) might not be rated completely accurately (they WON'T be in-game prospects however and overrated). So please don't download and get mad because Joe Schmoe a backup 24 year old outfielder in Single A isn't as fast as he should be. However, Joe WILL have accurate positions, birthdate, vitals, etc. etc.

Rating those players will come with time, but the first release is going to be centered on accurately representing contracts, managers, ratings for MLB+AAA+Top 30 Prospects, and hopefully minor league and major league statistics.

Go down to the bottom (April 1st)

It lists each teams transactions of putting players on the DL. Since there is no purpose of DLing a player prior to the season start, this is where all opening day DL lists will begin.
You'll also need to check the DL moves in late March- there's a lot of them:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/...r=2007&month=3

I find the rotoworld injury list to be very readable, with good information on duration of injuries:

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/inj...aspx?sport=MLB

(scroll down for each team to find injuries from before opening day; anyone who has returned from injury won't be on the list).

I'll also see what I can dig up on injuries to minor leaguers, though I know that kind of info can sometimes be hard to come by. Hopefully others can pitch in with what they know.

Ok, so here's the big question about injuries...

Since there are no numbers in the text files to control the frequency with which injuries occur, how do we keep certain injuries from popping up more often than they should? In other words, how do we keep steroid suspensions from becoming just as common as rotator cuff injuries?

I'd think it would be a simple matter of adding more lines to the injury files. That is, if you want an injury to occur 3x as often as another injury, you would have 3 lines compared to just the one line for the less common injury.

However, that begs the question of whether there is a limit to the number of lines we can have in the injury/off-field injury files. Doing it this way could result in the number of lines adding up quickly, so it might not be the best alternative if there is a limit.

Bottom line: We need to understand exactly how the injury files work in order to modify them accurately.

So does anybody know the answers?

Don't want to rush you, I know the set will be great, but any sort of estimate on the release of the file. I can't wait to see ratings. Any change of a beta beta version with just the major league ratings?

Agreed, it's a bit tricky. In-game injuries seem to be far more common than illnesses and off-field injuries, which already limits the frequency of things like steroid suspensions. I haven't found a way to get *enough* steroid suspensions yet- I get maybe 1 per league each year, and that's with 3 steroid-suspension 'illnesses' in the injuries file, and 6 steroid-related suspensions in the off-field file. Severe illnesses seem extremely uncommon- I just ran a test with a full minors MLB universe, where the only injuries were tender elbows (so I could verify I'd imported the injury file correctly) and 50-game and up suspensions, implemented as illnesses in the injuries.txt file, and I didn't get a single suspension in any league. It's making me wonder if I messed something up in the injuries file, so I'll try again. In any case, another issue is that there is no control over the severity of injuries in the off-field file; I get steroid suspensions that leave a player day-to-day for 6 days, for example. There's also an issue with re-importing the injuries.txt file, which may make all of this moot, and which I'm posting now in the Tech forum.

Anyway, probably best to start a new thread in General if there's interest in taking this discussion further, and I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has concrete info on injury implementation in the game.

Both Cubby and I want to play this as badly as you do, but we dont wanna give an initial release because all we will do is disappoint you all if we cant meet it or we rush, put it out on said date and it has nothing we promised you.. We are hammering away and I am about 90% done with all the coaches for all major and minor league teams. And as far as ratings for the lower level guys go, once Cubby's done with the AAA, i am gonna do all AA and single-A which isnt going to take too long since I had previously rated 100's of low level guys.....

Here's a quick update I sent CBLCardinals:

Not really sure on a timeline really -- what we're looking at right now for the first release is about ten more teams to be rated (which includes rating for MLB/AAA/Top 30 and then salaries) which I think could be done before pretty soon. After that we have to combine the manager file into the set, which should be done around the same time and tidy up the financials to make sure they fit the new salaries we've inputted.

In addition, we now have a full Japanese set to combine with the MLB set, courtesy of murmur13! (http://ootpdevelopments.com/board/sh...d.php?t=148378) We also have a full Mexican league, so upon release we should have initial Japan, full MLB, and Mexican leagues in the pack (with major league/minor league/international stats).

In addition (again), Icy has put together a very impressive looking set of major league/minor league jerseys and logos that he's going to be putting in for us.

Hope that helps.

Curious, a new user named redsoxphan signs up just to put down a roster maker. Lo and behold here comes another Red Sox fan right behind him to defend his nonsense post. Hmmmm......know each other do ya?
