An Alternative Universes Historical Abstract.
This is an idea I had for a dynasty which is either brilliant or stupid, I'm not sure which yet.
As baseball fans, I'm sure you'ore all familiar with Bill James and the 2000 version of his historical abstract, wherein he listed the top 100 players at each position (top 100 catchers etc.). I am playing a historical league (no three-year recalc, I LIVE ON THE EDGE) and once I reach 2000, I plan on taking the top 100 by VORP, doing a James-esque 3-5 sentence write-up on each player while doing a cheesy countdown at each position. Since right now I'm in 1941 in my league a final version won't be up for quite a while, so I'm looking for feedback on the actual idea before I begin. An obvious drawback to this is I'll be writing a cutesy little summation for exactly 1000 players. The amount of creative work on my part is going to be ridiculous. However, I'm hoping it turns out fun. Leave yr feedback here and I'll pretend to take it into account. |

Hey, I think it sounds like a great idea. A lot of work, but definitely entertaining to read.

This is a great idea.
Are you going to be writing from the idea that we have no idea who these players are? I mean, are you going to be making no references to what happened in real life? |

That's exactly what I'm doing. Maybe a few paralells or oblique references, but it will be entirely from the perspective of an alternate universe.

Excellent. I was hoping you wouldn't be comparing how players did in the sim versus real life.

Love the Baseball Abstract. This is an awesome idea. Pace yourself, though. You don't want to run out of steam.
