I've just finished my first month as a full time player, and I'm trying to make the most of my opportunity. I'm hitting around .280, and doing well in the field, so I think I'm contributing. I've been batting out of the #2 slot, and doing all I can to get on and set the table. We're sitting at 10-17 right now, which isn't great, but I look around and I see all of us getting better as individuals and as a team. |

The coach just called me in to tell me that I'll no longer be in the lineup against lefties. We've got this hot shot rookie by the name of B.J. Upton, and they want to get him some time at the plate. I'm a little upset--someday this guy is gonna be a star in this league, but right now, I'm the better player, and I don't know why I'm not in the lineup. |

Another big league season is over for the clubs that didn't make the playoffs. Again, I'm on one of those clubs. We went 67-94 and finished last in the division again. We didn't make much progress as far as our win total goes, but we really have some hope. Our minor league system is touted as one of the best, and we have a ton of young major leaguers--in fact, I'm one of the older guys on the team. So I think next season we can definitely get over .500, maybe even challenge for the division. Win or lose, I gave it my best this year. I still think there's room for me to improve. I feel like I have the talent to be one of the better second basemen in the majors, but this year my play was only average. I need to stick with my training regimen, keep trying to bulk up a little, and learn to lay off the ball in the dirt. These are some of the same things I've been working on throughout my career, but big league pitching can really expose your weaknesses. I'm looking forward to another season in Tampa. (statline for 2008: 462 AB, 124 H, 18 2B, 1 HR, 42 RBI, 37 R, 34 BB, 68 K, 8 SB, 3 CS .268 AVG, .321 OBP, .318 SLG, .640 OPS) |

Well, I got another shocker. I found out I'm no longer starting at second base. Management has decided B.J. Upton is a better player. I can't say I share that view. The kid's got a bat, but he's terrible out there in the field. But what can I do? I guess I'm going to have to contribute off the bench and try to show that I deserve to start. In the end I can only blame myself I guess--I had a shot last year to lock the job up for good, but I just didn't put up the big numbers I know I'm capable of. I know I can hit .300 in this league. I just hope I get another chance. |

We're over .500 for the first time in my career here in Tampa. It's killing me to be on the bench, especially now that our team is playing well. I wish I could be a bigger part of it. I don't know what else I can do to prove myself. I'm hitting .320 off the bench and in my occasional starts, and they're starting a guy who's hitting .240. B.J.'s a good kid with a bright future, and if he were outplaying me, I wouldn't be complaining. But I'm really trying to make it known that I feel like I deserve the starts as long as I'm hitting like this. |

Well, I guess in a way, I'm going to get the playing time I wanted. Tampa Bay has traded me to Kansas City, the worst team in Major League Baseball. Kansas City sent a couple of long shot prospects over. For the third straight time in my career, I'm joining one of the losingest teams in the AL. But again, it's a new opportunity to be a key part of the team. And I dunno, some guys will tell you it's all about the team winning, but I'm not one of them. I want to be out there every day doing what I do best, and what I love--playing second base. And I'd rather feel like I'm important to our team's fortunes, win or lose. I'm a little skeptical about Kansas City though. There aren't any real stars here, the fans don't come out to the park, and I wonder seriously if the owner is committed to spending his money on this team. I do know one thing--I'm not going to blow another chance. I even told B.J Upton before I left, if he could learn anything from me, it's that when you get that chance to be the man, don't blow it by hitting .260. Tampa Bay's got another youngster in double A by the name of Sanner. They think he's the next Ryne Sandberg, and before long, he's gonna be pushing B.J., the way B.J. pushed me. I guess that's the way the majors work--you either put up the numbers, or they find somebody else. |

My third big league season is over, and the Royals went 59-103. But on the plus side, we played good ball in the two months since I got here. I don't know what it is, but since I got here, I've been on fire. I think part of it's the stadium. I just really pick the ball up well as it comes to the plate, and I've been able to grind out a lot of infield hits. Or maybe I'm just a little more hungry, a little more intense. I do know this--the critics here in KC that wondered why the Royals would give up two prospects to get me shut up in a hurry once they saw the numbers I put up. Next year is going to be pivotal, and I need to keep hitting the ball the way I've been since I got here. (statline for 2009: 263 AB, 89 H, 10 2B, 2 3B, 23 RBI, 33 R, 23 BB, 33 K, 4 SB, 1 CS .338 AVG, .394 OBP, .392 SLG, .785 OPS) |

The Royals decided to let my contract go to arbitration. I'm making $522,500 this year. It's a raise--and you can't beat getting paid to play! |

That stadium is good for the kids, I tell you. One of my favorite places in the world.

Sad news for the three people following this: I'm getting some errors with this league, think I have a thoroughly corrupted DAT now. I did make it to the unimpressive end of my playing career. I retired at age 33 after a couple .270 years at 30 and 31, then being tossed into the minors at 32.
However now that I've got the league crashing every five minutes it seems I'm going to abandon it and manage elsewhere. Was fun while it lasted! And if anything it proves that this game is hard on individual prospects these days. |

I'm sure I speak for many when I say there were more than 3 people following this thread!! I know from experience that many people read without always posting on a thread. Great job with this player report.....I hope to see more done in the same way! Sorry your league got corrupted, but maybe you will have better luck the next time.
