Mass releases?

I took over a team after simming the first 3 years of a universe. After playing through one season, my rookie A ball team ended up with 180 players on the roster. After checking the computer teams, this is obviously way too much. Is there a way to mass release a bunch of players instead of individually right-clicking?

No, there isn't, but maybe you'd like to join my campaign to have such an option added for 2008?

I would also like to join this campain, noticed there where 200 players on my rookie team just before the draft, took forever to par that down to near 100.

what you can do in the game setup / league setup is limit the active roster size for any league. Not much help after the event, but worth knowing for the future.

True, but if you limit your lower levels of minors you get the dreaded draft and release problem. All my uper levels have roster limits on them (and work great)

Can you export the roster to a file, delete who you want to release, and re-import?

If you do this, where do the players go?

I think this is the right idea. I would try this:

1. Export the rosters. Go through them to delete the players that you do not want.

2. Select the option to Release All Players / Clear Rosters (not the Release All Players & Schedule Inaugural Draft option). This dumps everybody into the free agent pool. Go to the free agents page as commissioner and Delete All Free Agents.

3. Import the edited rosters. The untouched players should go back to their roster slots and the deleted players will have disappeared. Even the free agents from before should be restored to the free agent pool if all goes well; only the unwanted players should be gone.

Note: This may create a disconnect with player history text files, which are kept separately. You probably should note the player ID's of the guys you are deleting from rosters and delete their history files as well.

Note 2: Obviously, this is all experimental and much can go wrong. You should BACK UP your game before attempting this.
