Yearly Awards Given In June?

I'm pretty new to this game, and i am in my first season. I got to the draft did it and everything. And it was either the monday after the draft, or the second monday after the draft that their was a special event to vote for the all star team, and the yearly award winners. So i voted on them thinking it would take into effect when the normal time comes, but instead immediately after i voted i got numerous mails saying that these playered were being awarded these awards that night. I jsut want to know if this is normal for the game, and why exaclty it happened(if this actually happens in real baseball at all). I dont know maybe its something i missed, im not sure. But if anyone could help me out with this or just simply explain it would be a big help. Thank You.
