Ollie Perez on the mound for the Mets tonight against the Yankees. Should be loads of fun to watch, unless Oliver is on his game and you are a Yankees fan.

What the Yankees need to do is make sure they're ahead by the top of the 8th. If they're not, they'll have to contend with Okajima and Papelbon and that's as close as you'll get to a lights-out combination

Yeah, we Yankee fans know how good a 1-2 punch at the end of the game can be (ping 1996 Yankees ).

Just heard that T. Clippard is pitching on Sunday. Man, this year sure has been a showcase for young pitching.

I read that they were thinking about Chase Wright again, but that's old news. I guess it's Clippard's turn in this debutante ball.

Might as well see what the future holds. I'm not selling off this year just yet, but it's getting further and further out of reach.

. . . and the Yankees continue to sleepwalk in the batters box. You called it, darkhorse.

10 games back. Older Yankee fans can recall times like this. It's not pleasant, but it's not the end of the world either. I agree with CommishJoe just above, and I'm OK with it if it's true.

You want a winner all the time, but having a winner all the time would ultimately be . . . boring. You need some adversity (real adversity, not losing in the first or second round of the playoffs) to make the great years even greater. All teams go through this; the Yankees are not and should not be the exception.

Question to fiance -- How much do you love me?

Answer -- So much that we can get our legs tied together, walking 3 legged for the rest of our lives and I'd love it.
Joe, I just noticed this in your signature. May it be this way forever.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for the Yankees. How many more injuries can a starting rotation get? We're only half way through May and Clippard is going to be the 11th different starter tomorrow, and Rasner's had his finger broken tonight. At this rate it'll be a three man rotation of Wang, Mussina and Clemens soon and nobody from the farm will want to be called up because they seem to get injured.

Uhoh, we have a comeback brewing.

An A-Bomb from Arod, and then Jorge Juiced one, and we have ourselves a ball game!

Yeah, except Farnsworth gave up a hit and TWO G.D. walks in his inning of work, yielding two runs just when the Yankees were getting close. I swear to J.C., I hate that gutless S.O.B.

Notice, BTW, how P.C. I am with my acronyms.

Good times for minor league pitchers in the Yankers system.

On the bright side, the Yankees somehow still have a decent pitching rotation once Hughes returns and Clemens arrives as long as nothing happens to Wang, Pettitte, and Mussina. DeSalvo and Clippard are unknowns, but one of them should work out if Hughes does not. Again, as long as nothing else happens. Three of those guys mentioned above have been on the DL already, and I did not even talk about the three others that will be on the list for some time to come: Karstens, Rasner, and Pavanouch.

"Again, as long as nothing else happens"

That's all fine and good, but the Yankees really need perfect health from their staff to surpass the Sox. I think they'll catch up and at least take the WC, but that means that the big-three need to stay off the DL for the rest of the year and that's asking alot.

The cost of these injuries isn't just the missed starts from the starters, but the strains that the young kids put on the pen. It's a vicious cycle.

So if the Yanks lose tomorrow, how strong will the talks of Torre's job being in jeopardy be come Monday morning? Or will he actually be gone?

If you were listening to WFAN, half the callers were calling for Torre's firing, but half were defending him. You really can't fire Torre because he could only work with what is given him. Cashman should be on the hot seat, not Torre IMHO.

I think the 2007 Yankees are an example of years of bad free agent signings/trades in the past couple of seasons. The difference between the Sox and Yankees (minus the injuries):

-The Red Sox have a bullpen
-The Red Sox have bench players who can contribute

I look at the Yankees squad and see a lot of all-star hitters, but a lot of the small things were left out in the building of this team.

I remember in the past a guy like Miguel Cairo, Enrique Wilson, or even to an extreme John Flaherty, would come up with that big hit off the bench against the Sox, with a bullpen that was hard to score on. I don't see that this year.
