Play by Play
<TABLE class=tborder id=post2179037 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD class=alt1 id=td_post_2179037 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #3b4b7f 1px solid">I added this to the thread regarding additions for the upcoming patch, I don't think it's a bug. It is just the way that PBP is set up, but Battist suggested I post it here.
First some background. This is my first year with the game and I am really really, loving it. I have played baseball sims in one way or another for 40 years. I'm now 52. I have made a fictional League with 24 teams and am managing one team in the commissioner mode. I will probably play and manage almost all of my teams 162 games. let me start by saying the depth of the game is truely remarkable and it is great that you are ablr to play any depth that you would like. I have worked in professional sports for 25 years and have actually run teams, so the excitement of drafting, scouting and financials doesn't have the allure to me as it may with others. I love building my team, having logos and uniforms and importing stadiums to make the game even more realistic for me. That has been a blast. The work that some of you guys have done with the Mods is fantastic and noobs like myself are really appreciative. What i really love, is managing the team on a day to day basis, and as I said I will probably actually manage almost all of my teams 162 games. The thing that is killing me, is the play-by-play. The overuse of phrases, the phrases that don't make sense with the game situation and things like that are a bit annoying, but it's that way with any game I have ever played. it's no big deal. As I mentioned in my previous post the thing that is killing me with the play-by-play is IT IS BACKWORDS in regards to the baserunners and the hitter. I love the anticipation of seeing if my guy is going to score from first on a double down the left field line. To find out first, that my hitter slides into second on a double and finally almost as an afterthought find out that my runner has scored is maddening. I want to read... "Runner on first, one out. The stretch and the pitch to Landry. It's a frozen rope past first down the rightfield line, Johson giving chase, it's headed for the corner, Williams rounds second and is headed for third. Johson gets to it... Williams is going to try to score. Johnson hits the cutoff man.. here's the relay home... Williams slides and.... He's safe!! Landry stops at second with a stand up double and an RBI." Instead I see.. "Runner on first, one out. The stretch and the pitch to Landry. It's a frozen rope past first down the rightfield line, Johnson is giving chase, Landry is around first on his way to second. Johnson gets to it in the corner, Landry is in with a stand up double! Williams will try and score, here's the throw he slides and he's safe.. It is BACKWORDS. It is a fundamental radio play by play call. Since we cant' see the play develop on the field, we read the play-by-play as a radio call. This can't be difficult to change. I know each one of us has our own special things. This is mine. It is also exasperated by the fact that I will see it about a million times during the corse of the 162 games that I will manage. I have never seen it done this way in every other sim I have ever played, and I've played alot of them. This is the one thing that might eventually turn me. When everything else is done. The drafting, the scouting the coahing the finances the......What's left is the game itself. I love the game itself. This is a moderately large change, and so I have been informed that it will be considered for the next release of OOTP.
