Play by play
Is anyone working on fixing the sort of rediculous play by play text that we see over and over. Over the last two games I've played alone. I have had a pop up behind he plate caught by the firstbaseman one day, then by the pitcher the next. I've had outfielders "settle under" "dying quails", while balls "Skied" to the outfield drop for hits--I've even had a play where there's runner heading home, the ball is cutoff and thrown to third, where the CATCHER makes the tag. Outfielders dive on the warning track recover and throw to second for close plays, but almost never throw home under any circumstance. Guys slide into third, having "legged" out a tripple. Balls hit hard at infielders result in infield hits when the fielder decides to hold the ball.
OOTP is such a good game, in so many ways--there has to be a way to give us the ability to force throws to the plate and other bases, to send runners for the extra base sometimes and there has to be a way to structure the play by play to avoid ludicrous descripions. I mean, other games do this--it would seem that given all the complex stuff that Marcus et al, have dealt with so well, and made work, that fixing the game play should be doable. |

Maybe you've played out a great deal more games than I have, as I was prepared to comment on the tremendous improvement over v2006's pbp. While I have noticed an occasional situation similar to those you mention, I find them to be very uncommon, nonetheless standing out dramatically when they do occur.
It'd be very helpful to the text team, I'm guessing, if you'd make a practice of jotting down a specific situation or very unique phrase that "seems out of whack" in order to help them determine whether it is, in fact, a text issue or one of chronology and selection out of their control. Baserunning decisions, as you've rightly pointed out, are probably linked directly to Markus's design, but again, a precisely documented occurence will go a long way toward helping him or his testing associates determine how to improve that aspect of the game. If you do decide to provide particulars, I'd suggest putting the issues (one at a time) directly into the Tech Support forum. Of course it won't happen ovenight, but it will eventually be evaluated and/or examined.

Excellent points
Very good point--I will try to document more of these as they occur. Some are so constant as to be beyond documenting--e.g outfielders diving at the warning track, then throwing to second for a close play--but some others might be rare enough to document specifically.

The Text Team is very good about correcting the PBP and News Stories, when it is not hard coded by Markus.
The Text Team doesn't have access to the hard coded PBP and News. Please post problems related to Text in the Tech Support as endgame suggested. That is the only way to get it corrected. endgame is also correct -- the PBP is much improved on V2006 -- and the News Stories, too. Not perfect, but much improved. ![]() Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-12-2007 at 07:33 PM. |
