Because they'd rather trade them for old guys or sign old guys... :-( I rest my case!

I mentioned that in my last post. Who's won more Championships in the past 10 years? I think it's been working pretty well. In the run between 98-00 the main starting pitchers the Yanks had were.....
Cone, Wells, Irabu, Hernandez, Mussina, and Clemens all were bought/traded for with the exception of Pettite.

I didn't see it on TV because I've been in the library all day, but I imagine it was like the emperor at the Colosseum standing up and being admired by his subjects.

I saw it live on YES. They even cut a commercial short to get back to the stadium when they realized what was happening. Even so, they missed his first words, a thank you to the crowd which apparently had gone crazy when Sheppard directed their attention to Steinbrenner's box where he was standing with a mike in hand. It was still pretty darned dramatic, no matter how you feel about Clemens.

I'm excited about it as well. A rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Mussina and (eventually) Hughes should be fun to watch. This will give the Yankees a chance to either get Igawa some work in the minors or out of the pen. Yes, it stinks for Rasner as he threw one heck of a game yesterday, but he can always come out of the pen (where the Yanks can use as many fresh arms as possible).

With the age of the starting rotation, having quality long men will be very important. That's where Rasner/Igawa and even Karstens when he comes back can play an important role.

The good news is, is Rasner probably has a shot to keep his spot in the rotation until Hughes gets back. If he continues to pitch well, I wonder if they would take him out of the rotation when Hughes comes back. Either way, its healthy competition seeing these kids try and pitch to earn a spot instead of having to be there because of the injuries.

I'd say with Hughes' near no-hitter, they would want him back in the rotation. However, they might decide to put him back in AAA to strength back up slowly then call him up in Sept if Rasner is still doing well. Either way, I'd say Igawa has AAA time in his future.

They have to do something with Igawa... That's another note I have to send to Cashman, nomore Japanese pitchers...

Actually, that may be a problem sending him to AAA. How long was his contract, and how much is he making? How do you pay that much to a minor league player if he really cannot make it in the majors? Or is there a "return policy, (some) money back" clause in the agreement with the Japanese club where he came from?

I doubt they can send him back to Japan without paying him, but he has options and can be sent directly to AAA.

Talk to me when Clemens back becomes stiff in October, or he pulls a leg muscle in the 2nd inning of the World Series, or... Well, you get the picture.

You can say what you want, but the move just doesn't excite me.
Yes, those old guys like Clemens always get hurt and go to the DL. It's a good thing those young whippersnappers like Hughes are so good at staying healthy.

Congrats Yankee fans on signing Rocket!

Now the Red Sox should give #21 to John Lester

For when Proctor threw behind the guy yesterday... The manager automatically gets ejected and punished.

I know he gets ejected, but I don't think a suspension was in order. The batter wasn't even hit, which is more than you can say for the Mariners.

I agree with you 100%. On that note, I thought it was nice to see a player with some balls again protecting the team. That's alot more then I can say for Mussina.
