Baseball draft question
Just curious, for the purpose of dynasty writing, what happens when a player is drafted in the June baseball amateur draft.
Are they immediately assigned to a team, and then off they go to that obscure city to being their careers? Do they head to the team's headquarters for orientation and evaluation before being shipped off to rookie ball (or whereever else the team puts them)? Thanks for any insight folks can provide ... Just wanted to make sure I was accurate in a story I'm working on ...

I believe that most of them get a phone call and/or telegram telling them to report to the organization's Rookie or Short-A team. It would include meal money, transportation accomodations (rail or plane ticket, gas money, etc.) and an itinerary to follow.
Picks considered top prospects probably get the orientation, and the first (and maybe second in a long draft) round guys might even get a press conference. Note: That was part knowledge, part intuition and part literary license. If anyone with genuine knowledge wants to inform us, feel free to ignore me. |

In real life, the first/second round draft picks have their agents (probably other draft picks too) negotiate with the team for a signing bonus and contract. :P Once this is done, if it gets done, they then head off to wherever it is they're going to play (AAA, AA, A Rookie). If not, then they head off to college or sign into one of the independent leagues.
I guess in OOTP you could have it however you want. For upper ones, you could have like a press conference thing saying they signed, got so much bonus money for signing, and are happy to be with the team and playing in (AAA, AA, A) ball while they work towards playing in the majors. Of course, it's all way more complicated then that. But, isn't everything?
