TT 3395: Possible bug/Feature Request: Salary Cap in Commissioner mode

Currently the game does not enforce the salary cap for human controlled teams in commissioner mode. This effectively results in the inability for players to set up a league where they cannot be fired and their is a salary cap.

The only options available right now are:

1. Play with an enforced salary cap, but you could get fired from your team (non commish mode)
or
2. Play without an enforced salary cap, and be immune to firing (commish mode)

I personally believe that this is a bug because it was possible to play in commish mode with an enforced salary cap in all versions of this game pre 2006.

Please see the following thread created by briantheiceberg for more detailed information
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=145586

I am hoping that this can get a TT# and hopefully fixed in a patch.

I think its important to mention that this doesn't only apply to leagues with a salary cap enabled, but rather it also applies to regular leagues where the budget of a team is never enforced.

When you are commissioner, the owner (or the budget) always APPROVES the deal no matter what you offer a player in a contract. I understand that as acting commissioner, you would want an option to override and allow any contract offer, however this should be a separate option that needed to be enabled, as opposed to how it is right now.

Right now, there is no way to regulate a budget if the commissioner runs a team (as a GM). The mode people are seeking is one where you could be a Team's GM (just like regular manager mode) however without being able to be fired. Check the other thread (link provided in the first post of this thread) mentioned in the first post here to get more details.

Set to [J - Feature Not Supported/Possible]

I recommend, as a work around, to not play in Commish mode. That way you are bound by trade restirctions, budgets, and salary caps. But on the day when the season ends, switch over to commish mode, and you will not be fired. Then, once the off-season has begun, you will see news messages showing all the GMs and Managers fired around the legaue, switch off commish mode.

Question

I don't quite understand this response, Cras. This worked in 2006, so it was supported then. Why would it no longer be supportable in 2007? (I'm refering to the second issue of the commissioner always getting his player contracts approved.)

So you are saying when you are in commish mode, the team budget is no longer enforced?

When I originally logged this into TT I mainly referred to the salary cap and trade restrictions, although I did also give a link to this thread. I will log another that is specifically concerning the team budget not being followed.

Mets Man and one or two others have reported seeing this. I've never tried it. (It didn't occur to me to try.)

I think I have been able to reproduce this. It also seems that when in commish mode, you can also trade with leagues that are not permitted to trade with other major leagues (the leagues do not appear in the list when not in commish mode).

I have put another log into Test Track and will post here when I get an update. But just so you know, this may very well be the way Markus designed this work.
