A very important fix in this beta version has to do with using the historic foundation of baseball and then running a league with fictional players.

It is working, thanks to a lot of hard work by Markus.

Here's how you do it:

1. Add a historic league and choose the year that you want to import.
2. Go to the league settings and make sure to turn player recalc off.
3. Turn off auto import of historic rookies.
4. Leave all other default settings alone for a historic league.
5. Go to the main league setup page or choose the function menu: Release all players; go to the free agent view; delete all free agents.
6. Add fictional players to all teams.
7. You're ready to play. Your personal decision is whether to use scouts and coaches, adjust the injury factor (I recommend low) and whether to manage a human team or go in commissioner mode.
8. Start simming. It will work. It will set up the real team names, structures and schedules, but with absolutely unknown, fictional players. This really adds to the challenge of not knowing what to expect and not being able to scam the AI because you know that young, questionable Babe Ruth is really going to be something in a few years. It will also correctly expand, change to a 162-game schedule, begin maximizing the bullpen and closers in league strategies at the right time.

BUT AGAIN, BIG REMINDER: Make sure to turn off player recalc and import of historic rookies in the draft.

Enjoy! It's fun to have this working.

This is no way fixes the player quality in feeder leagues?
That is my #1 problem with the game

Well, it's nice that there's a work around, but it doesn't solve the problem. I like using the recalc to get some historical accuracy.

I'm hoping it can be corrected because it worked fine prior to patch #1.

Remember that I'm talking about an entirely fictional league but beginning with a historic import so that I can have all of the historic strategies, team names, structures, auto expansion and more throughout the history of simming. Player recalc works fine with historic players and real stats. Player recalc is unnecessary for fictional players and, in fact, with no data to refer to, was loused up.

Keep using the automatic historic league modifiers because that will keep your fictional players in line with the eras and historical foundation.

So now will historical fictional leagues move out of the deadball era around 1920 or so? I remember that seemed to be an issue.

I'm confused. Player recalc was designed for purely historical games to recalculate the historic players every so often to produce more realistic results. It essentially restrained OOTP's own player evolution model in favor of keeping the historicals on more of the same path that they really took.

For historical fiction you're using fictional players with no known history to speak of but set in a baseball universe that mimics how the real world worked. Few HR's will be hit in 1912 in a historical fiction league but by 1922 they'll be flying out of the stadiums. The game will use the real stadiums and adjust them as time goes on as well as real schedules. The only difference will be the players will be a bunch of guys you never heard of. So I'm not sure why you'd use recalc there.

Well, tried this and no luck. No name changes or team moves are happening. Double checked all the settings.

After doing a real history import, keep all of the default settings except for turning off recalc and historical rookie draft. Name changes, team moves and expansion have worked for me in the beta.

Bad news, however, in my second sim from 1901 to 2006 -- HR hit over 100 and modifier automatically adjusted to 5.5 by 1990. Reported to Markus for more tweaking. Remember that this is beta and his attempt to get a quick fix out to folks.

This beta build should be very stable. It did not get quite as much testing as other release builds yet, but so far it looks very solid.

Prior to working with SI there were patches released that were far less tested

Agreed. This is a very stable patch, and I personally recommend that at least online leagues use it.

I've trouble installing this patch. I have a Mac and have downloaded the .dmg disk image from ootpdevfiles.
I opened the dmg file, obtaining a volume containing a package named OOTP Baseball 2007 Patch 201.
I run the package (installer) and choose the folder containing my copy of OOTP as the destination folder.
Now I have only one OOTP application, listed as being modified today, but when I try to run it nothing happens. The usual zoom-out effect takes place, but then nothing else happens.

Any ideas?

When I patched on my mac I had no trouble. When you say you chose the folder containint your copy of OOTP, then I'm confused. The patcher only had me choose which hard drive to install it on. It sounds like something went wrong, the best advice that I can give is to redownload the game and then try the patch again. Make sure to back up all your saved games and any other customizing you've done. If you have any more specific info, then I might be able to help a little more.
