Instituting salary cap?

Hi...had a question and figured this would be the best place to ask.

I'm currently running a present-day, 24-team, 2-sub league w/minors setup, and I've been enjoying it immensely. I started without a salary cap, but wanted to try instituting one after having run things for a couple of years.

It's just after the 2008 World Series, and I figured out how to change things in the League Setup screen. Can someone tell me when the new rules take effect? Do I have to do anything special to make it happen? And does it keep the existing contracts valid for the players on the teams that are above the cap (currently about 1/3 of the league)?

Thanks in advance.

It essentially takes effect when you change the number in league setup. Teams that are over the cap aren't forced to lose players, but they will have trouble signing or trading for players until they get below the cap.
