Exclamation Game runs EXTREMELY slowly since a crash

Hello,

About half an hour ago, OOTP crashed while I was simming. (ootp5.exe has performed an illegal operation, etc. etc.). So I immediately rebooted my computer, and restarted OOTP. It took a ridiculously long time to load (20 seconds or so for the initial loading bar to fill, normally it takes no more than a couple for me).

It also took a long time to load my league. Even with menu animation turned off, they look animated because EVERYTHING is slowed down.

So of course, I unlicensed the game, reinstalled, loaded up the patch and figured everything would be fixed -- No such luck. Everything is still incredibly slow. The game is unplayable!

Does anyone know what's going on here? I apologize if this problem has been reported but I havent been able to find it. I saw a couple of similar problems, but none that happened suddenly after the person had already had the game working perfectly.

System specs:
Athlon 1800+
Windows XP professional
Approx. 2.25 GB free space on the drive
768 megs of ram

[Edit: I am also running DX9]

By the way, everything else on my computer is still running beautifully, with no slow down. No settings were changed on my computer, this problem only started happening immediately after the aforementioned crash of OOTP. Windows did not crash, just the program.

Thanks for reading this,
Brent

I am also having a verrrrrry similar problem but running it on a different platform. I downloaded, licensed, installed OOTP5 and played it without a problem. I downloaded the patch, unzipped it in the OOTP5 folder. Now the game runs slow as hell, and crashes. I had over 400 MB of space prior to DL'ing the patch. Now after it crashed and the patch is in, my disk space is gone.

I'm am running (I know, super-old school)

Win98
AMD K6 350
64 MB ram
Directx 9.0
latest HP M50 display driver.

I also did not know to unlicense the game before uninstalling.

Any advice anyone?
