Too bad you can't get into fictional leagues, which I can assure you, my fictional league feels very much like "baseball" and less like fantasy world. IMO, waiting all of this time for a real roster that is going to be sliced and diced 100 different ways after you sim the first week of your season sounds more like fantasy world to me.

Why not try a historical replay?? I enjoy those very much and with the new Lahmans or the other one created by one of our community guys it can be a very interesting way to play the game. Depending on your age and the years when you began following MLB you could have some fun re-creating a year in real baseball that you remember or where your favorite team did not do as well as you expected and you can take over the operation and see if you can turn it around. Just a suggestion until the current roster file comes out.

Well thats good of you. Well spoken of a "Hall of Famer."
I have tried historical as well. I dunno. I am an avid fan of baseball "now." And I know people argue that after a week the AI will screw the roster up anyways, but that is the beauty of it all to me. It's "what if" but in today's real setting. Last edited by mattkma; 05-02-2007 at 05:27 PM. |

Moreover, SI needs to make roster-making easier, that would solve the problem. They need a roster-making wizard. |

The point is this. People think that it has taken the roster makers a really long time to make the rosters. In this case I say, go make your own. Obviously it is taking them too long, but after a month I don't see anyone else stepping up. Or People realize that it is really difficult to create a complete roster set for this game. It has taken the most experienced roster person I know five months. I am sure if someone starts now, they should be done by the world series. |

it IS really difficult to create a roster for this game and for that the finger pointing has to start with Markus IMO for not making it easy |

I don't think anyone is questioning his effort or expertise in roster making. For most old timers here, his rosters was what everyone used.
My post was just some sadness as to what happened to the mod community. In the old days, everyone was sharing data, helping out, and basically pitching in to make the game better. The last couple years, the rosters have seemed to turn into a never ending drama. I guess some people are just curious as to why not release the raw data and let others with the time work on it and build a set. Maybe I'm dreaming of some impossible community where everyone works together to make the game better by doing what they can. It just seems like the board is more about whos name is on what and who gets what credit. And I'm not mad that it hasn't been released. I'm kind of mad that people were led on for awhile. There are a lot of people who would have come together to build a roster set a couple months ago if they knew there wasn't going to be one this year. But it seemed pointless to build your own, when respected members were saying they're coming out any day now. I don't have a problem with keeping things to yourself and not sharing, but think it's detrimental to the board when you basically say that you shouldn't bother with a roster set since one is being made, and then not follow through. It's simply too late now to start one from scratch. |

Or we could applaud him for making a tremendously deep game that is incredibly enjoyable. The better this game gets, the harder it is going to be to make rosters. Everyone that is sniping at the roster makers has likely never programmed.

I've had the game since release and would have attempted a roster set if I'd known then what I know now...but with posts like the aforementioned one, well, you get the point. The whole "start your own roster" bit is tired...especially with a widespread understanding that a repeat of last year's roster situation wasn't going to occur again... |

I have the utmost faith in Erich because over the years he has proved his integrity on the boards and with previous roster offerings. I am sure his arm issues have caused a slow down and nothing is more important than personal health and well being. I also agree that something needs to be done in the "chain" to allow these rosters to be ready on release day. Whether it is a banded group of responsible community members who have access via Marcus to what is needed or it is done some other way. It would solve a lot of the issues revolving around the Roster Fiasco of '07. If release date is Opening Day then give the roster makers 2 months lead time to have it ready to go. All things being equal - it's not rocket science...it's more good organization and foresight than anything. Carp |

I know nothing about making roster sets, but why can't we just use Lahman? From what I've gathered, the way the game imports it, the ratings are less than realistic? Is that the case? If so, is it the fault of the database, or the way the game uses the database? Maybe the solution is for the game to better incorporate Lahman. Or would Lahman just bring us accurate data through 2006....

A lot of people use Lahman and I don't think I've seen anyone else mention this complaint on these boards. Now, I haven't read every post here so this could be true but I have my doubts. I'd like to know how many players you have seen this happen to so we have an idea of the sample size you are basing this observation on.
