Is It Going to Happen?

I am just checking (not hoping to cause I firestorm) - but it has been one month since the "community effort" began of the 2007 roster set. I know there have been health set backs and so forth which are tough and unexpected. I guess bottom line - is this set going to be released or is it by the wayside? Just curious...thats all.

Hmm...is there any reason to start a new thread about this? You asked the question in the 2007 roster thread just before the weekend and nobody has responded, hence they are either working on it or have given up, I'd imagine the former. I don't care about real rosters at all since they are fictional in a few seasons anyway, but starting new topics about it every other day won't get it finished sooner I suspect.

If you don't care about the 2007 rosters or this topic why respond? Just curious.

Because these boards are becoming cluttered with useless topics, repeating what was just said in a different topic but trying to draw more attention I enjoy the game and the mods that are made other than this. Your constant pestering of mod makers turns off more than just roster dudes. So take a chill pill, and I'm sure if there's news, there will be something to see.

I am not pestering anyone. Asking a legit question looking for a decent response. It's an open forum and to the best of my knowledge that is allowed. I am not trying to draw attention to myself nor do I feel what I posted is a useless topic. The problem with this board is that a decent question (no matter whether it has been asked once or a million times) gets badgered. I am all out of chill pills. Bu thanks for responding anyways.

pfft. Seriously... how long have you been here dOOd?

These boards have always been cluttered with useless topics and repeating threads. 95% of these threads are useless information, if not more, so cut him some slack.

You are trying to draw more attention to yourself by posting here, hypocrite.

Let it die.

Thanks rdklein - Exactly what I resisted saying. All I wanted to know was if there really is going to be a set or not...nothing more and nothing less. And yes I posted it in another post on Page 13 buried in the depths of another "repeated topic." If the makers are being silent until it is released, then apologies to them. but silence this year in regards to roster sets has been a bit alarming if you know what I mean.

Well if they quit their project over someone just asking an honest decent question...then so be it. Why is every question asked here followed with a flaming fart out the a**?

From what I've read, and my info may be a little behind ..

I believe the main roster maker guy (Erich) has suffered an arm injury, and the completion of the roster set has been delayed until he heals.

I do not think there is anyone else doing one.

Here is a little bit of an update. I did complete the entire re ordering of rosters on the excel spreadsheet, but that was a few weeks ago. I know these rosters are still going to happen. Erich has been set back with his elbow. They will still get released, but we all just need to continue to be patient at this point. Since waiting, I've learned to fall in love with the fictional aspect of the game. I actually geared my league to a fictional league.

Basically to sum this up, Erich will still pull through.

Thanks for the update JackFlash- I think that's really all I was looking for.....I guess I am just trying to decide if our online league should wait for the new rosters...or not. If it's only going to be another week or so- we can probably hold out. Longer than that and waiting becomes a much less attractive option. Glad to hear they will get done eventually.

Thanks for the update!

I think part of the confusion comes from Erich's last post

It sounded as if he had turned the work over to someone else while he recovered. That post was made on April 23 so it's been over a week since we saw an update. Obviously Erich's health and non-OOTP life comes first - I just think that many of us are willing to pitch in if it means getting the roster set finished more quickly.

Couldn't have said it better myself...If anything remains to be done- I think ther are plenty of volunteers- assuming he hasn't pased the stage where outside help is necessary.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Been here long enough, but you are correct in your assessment, 95% of the threads are fairly useless. I do like to peruse and see what may be relevant and it just seemed as if starting (another) brand new thread to re-ask a question you just asked in a different was rather pointless. Just reason x to keep away from the forums. I am a hippocrite though, d00d!!!11!

I thought this was a community effort too. Surprised the "roster makers" who are having trouble aren't making their data publically available. Guess it shows that the rosters are more about an ego trip than actually collabarating in a group effort to make the game better.

These boards have changed a lot. I remember when we were all putting out mods for the sake of the game.

These boards have changed a lot. I remember when we were all putting out mods for the sake of the game.

Alot of people make the assumptions that the game and the community are the same makeup and gameplay as version 4 or 5. Frankly it isn't, and the game has grown in features, complexity, and community support.

That being said, the roster makers have much more to key and import to make a roster set now, than with version 5 for example, and that is some of what is taking so much time.

Of course Erich's illness right at the time of him being close to getting it released has hampered things. To blandly and blindly state that it was better then because it was simpler and faster is not fair to the people who took on these projects.

The game changed, so the roster makers had to as well. What worked with version 4 and 5, really isn't going to work today. Even beta testing with the game the roster makers still didn't have a final version to work with until almost release. (Testing what it is, there are changes that will always slow the roster making process)

With Markus making changes with version 2007, things that worked last year might have needed tweaks and changes this year. So the roster makers have to adapt every year, with new version features and changes.

It is a long long road, and a frustrating one at that. Erich this year has a lot of folks in place that can step up and help when he asked for it. Right now with the health issue, I know it is really frustrating him.

I speak with him daily, (we go way back before the 400 breakup and I have seen him do rosters for many games, not just this one) and he is getting better, but since it is the elbow, and not a knee say, it hampers him from completing it.

Should there be more updates and progress reports? Maybe.

But at this point (if I was Erich) I would be quiet and then release it without notice after Erich is sure that it is ready to go and is worthy of his standards. I know I would just fly under the radar and release with the things he can adjust now, and if any updates need tweaking he can do so after release.

Erich's roster sets have been used for years. His sets have been the standard for rosters, and this isn't belittling the competition. I am all for the competition. I think it makes everyone better.

But let's give him a chance to heal up and to finish up.

I know it is frustrating guys. The whole default roster vs real roster set issue will need to be addressed for future versions, since some won't buy or play the game without it, but for now we have to use what is available.

I love all the things the creators bring to OOTP , roster makers, pic wranglers, facegen images (Bobble is one that comes to mind) , Comedian has the best addons you could wish for, (where was he 4 yrs ago? hehe), LGO's schedules, (what would we do without these?), and to ALL the other roster makers, hat, uniform creators, and logo wizards, what would we do without all these fine folks?

Have a much simpler game experience? Maybe, but, remember each one of the folks mentioned (and not mentioned) above deserve the same support and respect and PATIENCE that you can give them. This third party creation process isn't the cakewalk others believe it to be. Make sure to say thanks if you download or appreciate their work. I know I appreciate their efforts and talents everytime I play this game.

They all deserve it. EVERY one.

Get better fast Erich. I know this time away is killing you.

What is bad, and this is no slam on roster makers at all, but the game has no attraction for me without real rosters. It's baseball, not fantasy world. Have never been able (and have tried numerous times) to get into a fictional league. Thats why I have not played the game in over a month while waiting for a roster release.
