5-man rotation problems...
I'm several years into my fictional league, and I just pulled off a series of trades that basically revamped my entire starting rotation. I asked the computer manager to set my rotation, bullpen, etc, and everything seemed in place. I had 5 starters in my 5 man rotation, it was set to play highest rested starter, etc. All of the normal functions.
I simmed ahead about a month or so and then stopped to see how my new pitchers were performing...and I see that my #4 and #5 pitchers in my rotation hadn't pitched at all! Not a single inning. I took a look back at the schedule for the last month and saw that the 1, 2 and 3 pitchers pitched in a normal rotation, but everytime it came to the 4th starter in the rotation, instead of starting the actual 4th starter that is listed in my pitching rotation, it started a reliever...and then it would sometimes start the SAME reliever the next game, when the #5 pitcher was supposed to start. After that, the "rotation" would start over and the #1 pitcher would pitch again. I fixed the problem by setting the rotation to "strict order" instead of "start highest rested starter," but is there any reason why I was having that problem in the first place? |

Now I just ran into another problem...even when I had it set to strict order on my rotation settings, it still skipped over my #4 starter after simming ahead another month. I decided to see what the deal was, so when my #4 starter was scheduled to start my next game, I select "play game," and in the pre-game lineups screen, the pitcher slot is blank! It's like my #4 starter doesn't even exist...I'm very confused.

Wondering a few things here. First, the reliever that was starting, is his role set as "Starter"? And the starters that are being passed over, are their roles set as "starters"? Then on to the next issue you are having, Whant happens when you begin the game? Does a starter get placed in there? if so, who is it? a starter or reliever?

Maybe you should try setting it to "Strict Order" that way it will have to work it's way thru the rotation. Thats what I have my league set at. Once I set up my universe, I jumped into commish mode and changed ALL the teams to strict order, that way no pitchers would get skipped. Then switched back to manager mode and play out games in a normal fashion.
Just a follow up. Fidel is right . Make sure your pitchers roles are set correctly also, You don't want a SP's role set reliever and vice versa. Last edited by Oxydizer; 04-12-2007 at 10:10 PM. |

I'm continuing to have the problem...I even have it set to strict order and it's still skipping my #5 starter. He is listed as a starter, and the people that the AI starts in place of him are all middle relievers...I'm thinking about just trading the guy, but it sucks because he's a pretty good pitcher.

Well, I just traded my pitcher to another team...I started the next season, and saw that a few weeks before the allstar break that one of the pitchers on the team I traded him to had nearly 200 innings pitched.
I checked out to see what the problem was, and the team (Nashville), which contained the pitcher I traded to them, had a total of ZERO innings pitched between their #1, 4 and 5 starters (including the guy I traded). This forced this other pitcher with nearly 200 innings to pitch almost every other day. Again, not sure what the problem is. But it's very strange |

Strict order didn't work for me either, 4 and 5 were still being skipped, the only work around I've found so far was demoting all 5 to AAA then bringing them back.
