at least 128 but you'll be a lot happier with 256

options

1. Take your computer to circuit city and let them tell you what kind it need's.

2. Take it to a computer specialty store and ask them.

3. Take or talk to whoever sold you the computer.

Just tell the above three options you need to upgrade your ram. Nothing else. They may try to sell you a bunch of crap. Take it one step at a time.

4. Ask a friend to look at it who knows something about computers. (best option)

2 days without being able to play ootp5. You must be going insane. I would be.

You might want to look into the sound card idea above as well.

yes,i'm going crazy without playin OOTP. And the sound card idea i have already did. And it doesn't work,so i'm going to ask one of my friends. He should know because he has put just about all the best stuff in his computer so i will ask him what kind of RAM i need for my computer.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Make, what do u mean make, like compaq?? I have a compaq if thats what you were asking for. As for the model. I cannot find that because there are like 3 different numbers here. But i think this number '7478' is the right one.

Is this it ?

http://www.royhooper.com/7478.htm

If so, you'll need compaq approved memory (can't just use any memory chip) and I would get a new sound card as well. The one in this machine is not DirectX compatible.

that's it. you have a Compaq Presario 7478.
it has 64 MB of memory, but 8 of that is going to the shared video memory.

you've got 2 memory slots, and you could but 256 in each one.

I'd recommend buying a 256 MB chip - would be about $50 and would be a huge boost to your system.

memory is pretty easy to install - you'll have to open up your case, but crucial does send along some pretty good instructions to help you.

This is first thread of it's kind that I have actually read through from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed. Nice to see people genuinely wanting to help someone who is obviously a little computer-challenged and willing to work through the process with them.

Although I think the problem will not be solved with the memory upgrade. That will help... but only after you buy a soundcard to install in the computer. The other guys are right. ESS onboard sound causes many headaches for gamers. Make sure you look into that. Shouldn't cost more than $20 to get a generic SB-compatible card that would be certified for DX.

I have to agree with Evangel. With computers with onboard sound or video, you may want to buy IF you can a sound card like the one mentioned above that will help you so you can hear the sounds of OOTP. I have worked on MANY Brand Name computers ....but Compaq and it's ESS is a very tricky thing to configure to work ACROSS the board on ALL games on your PC, much less OOTP.

I wish you well. Buy as much memory as you can afford that your motherboard will support. Find a computer guru that can help you with the "little" details so that you don't run into any unforseen problems.

There are a few of us that do have expertise in this field, but unfortunately, we don't live in your area. Let us know!
