Importing Roster Problem

Ok I've been doing a little editing in excel and have been trying to import my rosters back into the game. I have saved the file as a .csv file and the commas and such are set up correct. But when I import the rosters in the game, I get no error message but the team is completly blank that I edited, no players are shown in the transaction screen. Now when I click on view roster and entire organization I can see the player but why are they not available in the transaction screen?

When you click on a player, does his profile show what 'level' he is assigned to?

I can only surmise that Excel did something awful to your file, although it's hard to say what, precisely. If you post a copy of the roster file you're trying to import, we can try to take a look.

Excel doesn't do awful things to files, users do.

I am helping Rolen with his roster set. Here are the files I am playing with:

Main Excel File:
http://www.theislleague.com/MAINFILE.xls

Importing CSV File:
http://www.theislleague.com/import.csv

Let me know if you see something I am doing wrong. Team I have been working with is the Baltimore Orioles.

When I click on a player his profile says he is on the correct level but in the transactions page he isn't listed at all until I manually click on the player and hit add to active roster.

Updating the patch now

As I suspected, I think Excel is responsible. Sometimes when you save Excel as CSV, it will add additional characters, like quotations.

For example, see the header from your file:

Code:
//Player ID, Team ID, Team Name, LastName,FirstName,NickName,Uniformnumber, DOB, NationalityID, CityName, Height (cm),Weight (kilogramms),Bats ( 1 = right 2 = left 3 = switch), Throws, Position (1-9), ML Service, 40 man roster service, pro years," options used",Contact vL, Gap vL,Power vL, Eye vL, Avoid K vL, BABIP vL, Contract Vr, Gap Vr, Power vR, Eye vR, K's vR, BABIP vR, Contact Pot, Gap Pot, Power Pot, Eye Pot, K's Pot, BABIP Pot, HBP, Batter type ( 0 = normal 1 = pull 2 = spray), speed," steal", running," sac bunt", bunt hit, Stuff vL, Move vL, Control vL, Stuff vR, Movement vR, Control vR, Stuff Pot, Move Pot, Control Pot," HBP", WP, Balk, Endurance, Hold," GB%", Velocity (1 - 20), Infield Range, Infield Error, Infield Arm, DP, CatcherAbil," Catcher Arm", OF Range, OF Error,OF Arm," PExp", CExp, 1bExp," 2bExp"," 3bExp", ssExp, LFExp, CFExp, RFExp,//NOTE: Player and team names are purely cosmetical and will not be used when importing rosters from this file!
See how the red sections have quotations? Now look at this header, straight from an export from the game:

Code:
//Player ID, Team ID, Team Name, LastName,FirstName,NickName,Uniformnumber, DOB, NationalityID, CityName, Height (cm),Weight (kilogramms),Bats ( 1 = right 2 = left 3 = switch), Throws, Position (1-9), ML Service, 40 man roster service, pro years, options used,Contact vL, Gap vL,Power vL, Eye vL, Avoid K vL, BABIP vL, Contract Vr, Gap Vr, Power vR, Eye vR, K's vR, BABIP vR, Contact Pot, Gap Pot, Power Pot, Eye Pot, K's Pot, BABIP Pot, HBP, Batter type ( 0 = normal 1 = pull 2 = spray), speed, steal, running, sac bunt, bunt hit, Stuff vL, Move vL, Control vL, Stuff vR, Movement vR, Control vR, Stuff Pot, Move Pot, Control Pot, HBP, WP, Balk, Endurance, Hold, GB%, Velocity (1 - 20), Infield Range, Infield Error, Infield Arm, DP, CatcherAbil, Catcher Arm, OF Range, OF Error,OF Arm, PExp, CExp, 1bExp, 2bExp, 3bExp, ssExp, LFExp, CFExp, RFExp,//NOTE: Player and team names are purely cosmetical and will not be used when importing rosters from this file!
No quotations.

I suspect this sort of thing is what's screwing things up.

More importantly, you've left the team name in in some cases, but not in others, like this:

Code:
2700,,,Conine,Jeff,Nine,13,6/26/1967,206,Tacoma,185,220,1,1,3,2605,2666,17,2,98,117,70,81,130,93,94,108,64,75,125,90,120,119,103,98,109,118,4,0,70,150,92,118,55,5,71,48,5,79,54,5,75,51,15,30,10,7,0,40,0,66,70,114,55,0,0,103,162,132,0,0,200,0,0,0,200,0,160,,
5010,3,Baltimore Orioles,Gibbons,Jay,,31,3/2/1978,206,Rochester,183,200,2,2,9,904,1105,8,3,89,108,96,80,114,83,124,148,131,109,133,97,113,138,122,102,128,94,3,2,46,73,54,33,4,5,80,47,5,77,45,5,78,46,15,30,10,7,0,40,0,44,50,27,17,0,0,101,151,154,0,0,120,0,0,0,0,0,200,,

The root cause isn't Excel , it's the original export function: it puts an ASCII character '9' (TAB) in several places in the header line (immediately before the headers 'options used', 'steal', 'sac bunt', 'HBP', 'GB%', 'Catcher Arm', 'PExp', '2bExp' and '3bExp'). Excel 'correctly' then puts quotes around those when saving as csv.

A small bug, unless those char-9s are needed for any real reason.

Listen buster, don't rain on my anti-MS rant!

Anyway, I suppose it was the other human error that's causing the problem there, not the quotations.

I've not used it, but comments in the export suggest the team name bit shouldn't matter (only team ID is necessary).

Yah, this isn't really my area of expertise.

A bug?

Marking this thread to report in Test Track tonight.

jackflash, try deleting both the quotes around and the tab before each of the headers I mentioned above - in Notepad, rather than Excel, then try importing straight from that.

One thing I noticed, when I allow the AI to make roster moves, the players are visable in the transactions screen but most of them get moved to levels of the organization that I don't want them in.
