AAGPBL recruitment drive

I am putting a league together based loosly on the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. The league will be using OOTP5 so it will be required. The league will have female players named after players from the real aagpbl to start off with. Hopefully by the time the names run out I will have completed the female first name file I am planning on making.

I have already completed the logo set for the teams, they can be seen here: http://www.flatface.net/~ootp/logo.htm, though owners will be free to make their own logos if they don't like the logo I have made for the team.

The league website will be located at: http://www.flatface.net/~ootp/. If you take a look at the current site please be aware that in the current state is only about 75% finished. There will be a message board and everything else you would expect to see on an OOTP league homepage.

Since the league will only have 12 teams to begin with it should become a very tight knit and competitve. Expansion is a possibility but it definatly isn't something that's high on my list of things in the near future.

Since I am waiting for OOTP5 to come out to make rosters etc. the league will not start for another 2 weeks. I will do my very best to meet this deadline. As of right now all the rules and things of that nature are in my head so if theres something in particular you want to know about the league I can probably answer it.

I am not exactly sure how much interest this league idea will generate but since 2 of the possible 12 spots are taken I will be doing a short interview type process to determine who to give a team to. This will help to insure that there is a core of high quality owners in the league. So when contacting me via email at dan_wpg@hotmail.com, or the messaging service of your choice, please answer the following questions.

How many leagues are you currently in:
Which leagues are you in:
How long have you been playing OOTP:
What is your forum ID:
Why would you like a team in the AAGPBL:

Any questions for me:

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you in the AAGPBL.

4 spots have been filled and the league is slowly filling up. 8 more dedicated owners are still needed. The custom all female first name file is done and the game now generates female players. There are 2400+ names with varying frequencies to make the league as realistic as possible. The league file with players should be up on Sunday or Monday of this coming week. If youre interested in the league or have questions feel free to email me.

Church can you post the general attributes of your league, like whether it uses financials, DH, etc.? Thanks.

church: how did you change the names? Did you use the editor within OOTP or is there a way to do it more efficient?

As of right now nothing is set in stone. When youre playing in a league with 11 other people you want the consensus to like the rules the way they are. Though here is the basics I have worked out which are more than open to debate.

There will be 2 divisions of 3 team leagues with the winner of each making the playoffs. Each team will start with 25 players on their major league roster and ~15 prospects in the minors. The players will be assigned to teams by me to make sure everything is quite even to begin with. No team will start with any players over 35 to make sure they're not stuck with any stupid contracts.

Financials will be on, this is mainly due to the fact that I have never played a league without financials. There will be an artificial salary cap. This will be achieved by limiting seating capacity to around 30 - 35k tops. This will help keep the gap between rich and poor teams small. Plus it makes fan interest rise much faster if you have a smaller ballpark.

I don't really have an opinion for the DH for the league, if the members of a league want the DH they're more than welcome to it.

We will use reduced ratings. If enough people want to use only talent I am open to that option. Full ratings will never be an option.

I'm hoping people want to use coaches because I think they add another layer of reality to the game, though if most people want them off I can always turn them off.

Theres more but they're small things really that just make sense to have like a waiver wire etc. Honestly though I'm very open to suggestions and rule changes before the league gets started. My opinion of a bad commish is someone who makes a league in the image they want and not for the fun of the owners that are in the league. If theres anything in particular you want to know about feel free to ask, I'm more than happy to field questions.

I made a more efficient way. Though I'm probably going to add real AAGPBL players by hand.

The way I did it was to make a custom fnames.dat file. I took the 1000 most popular names from each decade from 1900 to 1990 and put them into a text file. I then had a friend write a small script to count the instances of each name and spit out a file with the names in alphabetical order with their frequency beside them. So it looks something like this:

Amy 8
Isabel 2
Sue 5

Just as in the real fnames file but different in the fact that it only goes up to 10 and well its all female names. I thought about changing the frequecys to go higher than 10 but decided that I'd rather have more unique names come up than to have a hundered Marys etc.

If anyone is interested in the file I'd be more than happy to post it in the mod's forum along with a bit on instructions on how to get them to work.

I don't understand how someone can be so misogynistic in this day and age. Personally I find women atheletes to be much more attractive than any pop music or movie star. Some people say that world war II robbed a lot of male atheletes of their prime years, I say it gave the women some much needed time to shine.

Strange. I would've figured you were a lot younger, given your "Ewwwww, girls" attitude.

I think it's very cool to start an online league which represents a women's league that actually existed.

Yeah, shame on you... The WNBA is a great idea... of course then you have the great conundrum, if given the choice of watching the NBA or the WNBA, which would you watch?

Of course, the answer is neither.

I think this is a great idea!

I actually started to work on something of this nature, but never got very far...and I can't remember why. I think it may be that despite changing the names etc, won't the game continue to refer to, say, Isabel Jones as "he".

"Player of the Week is Racine's Isabel Jones. He really pitched well this week going 2-0 with a 1.22 ERA...."

Somehow, I just couldn't get past that. "Julie Dayton is a star in the making. He will be a very good 3B someday..."

This is something you can overlook, I suppose. I certainly will be keeping an eye out for this one.

Yeah, that bothers me too. Though I've learned to just look past it. I've thought of asking Markus to make a toggle to switch between he and she but it probably would be a fair amount of work for maybe 10 people out of all the ootp community. So when the game is perfect and noone is asking for anything I'll mention it to him.

To be fair I don't really think anyone who can do anything about it will be reading it.
