Player Payroll calculation wrong
I'm the GM for a team in the Mexican League. In the team's front office view, it shows Player Payroll at $1,393,820. However, the Player Salary Report shows my team's total salary as $969k--a pretty big difference!
The Player Payroll summation error results in Proj. Budget Room of $-349,820, which prevents me from signing any free agents, which is a problem. I see that the other teams in the Mexican League have the same problem. |

Same thing in major american leagues
I'm seeing the same bug in my American leagues. The Front Office screen shows a Player Payroll of $94,549,140, but the team salary report shows a total of $88.1m.

Quick question ... do you have one or more players in 'minor' leagues who also earn salary? I wonder if they're accounted for on one screen (front office) but not on the other (team salary) ...

Jim, thanks for the question!
In the Mexican league, there is no minor league, so this isn't a consideration. In the American leagues: Yes, there are minor league players, and adding them in yields the sum on the Front Office screen. So there is no true discrepancy in the American leagues; thanks! Quote:

Yes, but presumably in the Mexican league, there is a player or two on the reserve roster with an actual salary?

It's been nearly a day since somebody's tossed me a bone on this issue. Any thoughts?

Okay, go to the Roster screen and set your View to Financial Info. Set your Listed Players to Entire Organization. Add up everyone's salaries. Which number do they match? If it matches the Front Office screen's total, compare all of the names on the Roster list to all of the names on the Salary Report list and find who is missing.

Nutlaw, thanks for the bone...

When I choose "Reserve Roster", I see nobody. My team has no reserve roster. So I choose "Active Roster" and sort by Salary. These are the names and salaries I see: Firing up my trusty spreadsheet, I see that these add up to $968820. Quote:
As you can see, the Front Office Player Payroll total is $1,393,820. |

configuration info
I should mention... I'm running under Windows XP, patch 2.01 (i.e., version 2.0.1.43).
I simmed a full season, then was hired by Laguna after the 2007 season. I let the computer GM take care of the roster moves in the off season, and simmed to the beginning of Spring Training on 24 February 2008. |

Do you have coaches/scouts on? Did you cut anyone? It seems like an awful large difference to attribute to either of those possibilities, but who knows.

No players were cut during the off season. One player retired, but his contract ended in 2007 anyway. A number of players became free agents in the off season. L. Salinas was signed to the two-year extension seen on the roster screen. J. Lopez was signed to a 1-year extension in the off-season, which is also seen on the roster screen. Four players had automatic contract renewals for $25K; they are enumerated at the bottom of the roster screen. A number of free agents were signed to "a minor league contract" and subsequently placed on the active roster. All of the other teams in this league have a similar financial issue. In the entire 16-team league, only one free agent was signed to a major league contract (i.e. with a $ amount) in the off season. Of the free agents my team lost during the off season, none have subsequently signed major league contracts, though a few have signed minor league contracts. |

Oh, I got it. See all those guys with no salaries listed in your Roster page? How does it add up if they are all given minimum league salaries? The game doesn't officially assign them salaries until the regular season starts, but since they are on your active roster, your payroll assumes that they will receive more than minor league contracts.

Assuming that $25,000 is your league minimum salary, that would put you at 17 additional players listed in your active roster without a contract.
