Money/Free Agents Question

ok, this has been the case for a few seasons. I go to give a player a extention.. and it says i have like 20 mill avabile.. but when i try to sign a free agent i have no money avabile.. why does it do that, i havent been able to sign an FA in 3-4 seasons.

Because the Free Agent money budgetted is different the the extension budget:

Money for Free Agents = (Last Year Revenue - Payroll) + Cash


Money for Contract Extension = (Last Year Revenue - Next Year's Projected Payroll) + Cash

So you'll have money left for Contract Extensions even if you have no money left for free agents, frequently, since you are likely to have at least one player leaving the team each year.
