Amazin' Aftermath - the 1987 Mets
I've decided to go back to the team of my youth, the mid-80s Mets. But instead of trying to recreate the Mets WS win of '86, I decided to try to repeat and then some. See if the Mets can keep the back pages for the rest of 80s and beyond.
Enjoy. |

INstead of creating a new thread, I have edited this one. My first try with this league saw some massively unrealistic trades including Darren Daulton, Jesse Barfield and Orel Hershiser being dealt for peanuts. So, I started over, turned off trades until March 3rd, and here we go...

What were they thinking???
Just one week after making 2 trades that Dodger fans were buzzing about, the Big Blue made one more that had fans buzzing...and cursing, and crying. 28 year old ace, Orel Hershiser, was shipped to Baltimore for starter Jim Dwyer, an ace in his own right, but a 37 year old ace as well. When contacted, Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda said "I don't know what the $$$$ we're doing." Note - I'll be turning trade frequence down...this was sort of ridiculous and I actually considered starting over. |

Starting Over
If you haven't gotten too far into the season, I'd go ahead and start over. Since the Hershiser was such a big part of the Dodgers' late-80s success, it seems only fair. Then again, it is your dynasty.

Out of curiousity, who were the prospects that the Phils dealt for Daulton?
I loved watching Dutch play, but whenever I do a historic sim, he's usually trade-bait out of the gate along with Dykstra if I have him.

Spring Training Report -
We went 14-10 in Spring Training, finishing second in the NL East. Since I've never been much of a Spring Training fan, I'll get right into opening day. Just so you all know, the style I really have enjoyed is Cknox's style that he used in "One flew over the Pale Hose." If I can even come close to emulating that style, I'll be happy. |

Coming off our first World Championship since 1969, the back covers were all ours. That was until opening day, when Jack Morris blanked the Yankees 6-0 with a 5-hit shutout for the Tigers, giving the Pinstripes back their headlines, if only for the wrong reasons. But today was our day. April 7, 1987. Dr. K vs Rick Reuschel. We'd receive our rings at...beautiful....Shea Stadium before our home opener against the Bucs.
No moves were made in the preseason so we'd start with a similar lineup to the one that hoisted the trophy in October: CF Lenny Dykstra (who will platoon with Mookie Wilson) 3B Dave Magadan (takes over for WS MVP Ray Knight who signed with Baltimore) 1B Keith Hernnandez (who was 3rd in the Majors with 41 Spring training hits) RF Darryl Strawberry 2B Greg Jefferies (who will split time with Wally Backman) SS Howard Johnson LF Kevin McReynolds C Gary Carter Last edited by lgkeeper; 04-17-2007 at 10:10 AM. |

Seems like moves were made in the offseason, Kevin Mitchell is not in uniform. I guess you took over with the 1987 rosters.
