Groundball %, ratings question

So I was messing around with a few players from one of cubby's sets. I thought that groundball % was basically cosmetic, but when i raised it, the expected batting average against went up, and when lowered the average went down. Does this seem backwards?

It has been a while since I looked into it, but I thought the general statistical evidence supported that groundball pitchers tend to have lower BA against, BABIP.

It would be nice if this stat was also tied to homeruns against, as I am pretty sure that groundball pitchers do have a greater success at keeping the ball in the yard.

Groundballs are more likely to go for basehits than balls hit in the air, so that would make the expected batting average go up.

I think I will have to do a little legwork on this. I am pretty sure grondball pitchers have lower BA BABIP.

Balls hit in the air are more likely to go for homeruns (and last I checked the league average was about 10% flyballs go for homeruns) which also increase average, not to mention doubles, and basehits.

Yeah, okay. I think I had it backwards. It seems to be about a .12 difference in batting average, according to a Baseball Prospectus article. That's all the legwork i am doing.

When the average is calculated though they remove homruns from the equation? That seems odd.

Home runs are never in play (except, of course, in extremely rare Jose Canseco type instances).

Or Carl Crawford type instances.
