This makes it so when changing from one U.S. version to another the exact same cities are used. Thus, Atlanta in U.S. 1871 is still Atlanta in U.S. 1970, with the exact same location and population and so forth.

This got me to thinking...

I wonder if there would be enough interest in the mod community to create the ultimate historically-accurate universe. That is, using census data going back 120 years or so to add correct populations for U.S. cities during each decade, or at least for each time period that cephasjames is using.

I know this would be an extremely ambitious project, and it may not even be of interest to enough people to warrant the time and effort that would go into it. (Still, it would be nice to not have so many players coming from Mesa, Arizona or Pembroke Pines, Florida, or major league teams based in Paradise, Nevada, in 1900.)

Of course, this would have to be a group effort, so unless there are several people who are willing to devote some time to it, I doubt it'll ever get off the ground. But if anyone else thinks it's a good idea, I'll post it over in the mod section.

I finally made some sense of your methodology. I would like to add back into your mod Afghanistan, Andorra, Anguilla Bahrain and Benin along with their respective cities and populations. How do I do this?

I tried doing it myself by adding those countries back to the nations.txt files and merging the original cities.txt with your modded one and did not get the results that I was looking for.

Correct. I will probably have it finished (with the countries I replaced back in and new country codes for the USs) tonight or tomorrow and then I'll ship it out to PadreFan on Monday or Tuesday.

I am also going to add a 1945_first_names.txt and a 1945_names.txt where both the 'normal' US and the 'negro league' US can use modern names (as opposed to one being modern and one historical or both being historical)... OOTP is all about options.

Looking and tinkering with your mod myself helped me understand the mapping of between cities and nations files.

I was wondering about this as well, but finally settled on just accepting the fact that something like this is incredibly difficult.

I'll stick with my world starting in 1897 with people from all over the world playing in the league.

But, this is still a great mod and I hope it becomes something we'll see in future OOTP versions.

Unfortuneately, I haven't been able to figure it out - and from what I am reading here .. I can't get my players names/ethniticities switched to historical because I've already started my league, and it's now impossible.

The problem is with the nations.txt. If you start with the default United States (nation 206) then your world will always use Modern US names with some Hispanic names thrown in. It will also use at least a little of every ethnic group. This cannot be changed, ever. Your world is stuck with it.

Ethnicities in the ethnicities.txt need to match up with ethnicities in the nations.txt or it won't work how we want it to. That's the problem. We can change one but not the other. That's why I created different versions of the United States within the nations.txt so when we do change ethnicities in the ethnicities.txt we can have a US, to switch to, with matching ethnicites already in the nations.txt
