When you control a team, what position do you see yourself holding?
When you take control of the team, do you see yourself as
Manager - in charge of the day to day on the field stuff GM - in charge of mostly personnel (contracts, trades, drafts) Manager/GM Owner - also in charge of budges and prices. I ask because at the moment, the game sort of sees the human player as all three depending on what screen you are on. You are clearly the GM when you apply for a job, and when you go to the personnel screen. You can hire and fire managers. However you can also manage a game, despite the fact that you hired a manager. And also, you are listed in the manager index regardless of the fact that you hired a manager. You can also set ticket prices and have total control over contract negotiations (as long as they are under the budget). I am not sure how many GMs have that sort of free-reign. In my case, I see myself as only a GM, who is responsible for building a team and assembling a coaching staff that will do the best job helping the team succeede. Thus, I find it extremly irritating seeing my name listed on the manager index page.

The GM. I like making all the moves and stuff, not so much the actual game management.
I also keep it realistic in that respect. I only do stuff a real GM would do. |

GM\Manager. I've managed every inning of every game for 13 seasons.

I voted GM.
Would've voted for : GM/But way to far into the managers business option had there been one ! ![]() I don't watch games, so I don't "manage" any teams, but I do set my lineups, staff, etc. |

I voted for General Manager. The more I play the game, the more I find myself leaning towards just the business aspects of the game. Player and personnel decisions, possible trades and evaluating minor league talent seem to be most interesting to me. It's fun to decide on a manager and coaching staff and then see how they deal with the players I've given them. Plus, dealing with the financial elements is a world in itself.

How do you run your "God" mode?
I often like to run in Commish mode because I do like to have some impact on the history of the league. I like to have a superior player sometimes retire early so you always have a "what if he played longer" story. But in doing so I always seem to be wearing the GM hat. I have tried once, and only once, controlling all teams, but that got tiresome for me. I prefer controlling one team for a hundred years.

Looking at this poll, I would say that in the next version, the game adapts a EHM philosophy. When you are hired as GM, you can then fire the manager and you then become the GM/Manager. Otherwise the game should treat you just as a GM. On the other hand, you would also then need to be able to apply for jobs at major league clubs as only a Manager and have a GM boss.

I am just the manager. I don't promote any players, make trades, etc., just manage out the games and set my lineups, pitching staff, and depth charts.

I enjoy playing the role of GM.
I got into manager mode recently and its fun too but its missing something. I think a very basic 2D engine would help immerse people into manager mode, like EHM's crude but effective 2D system. They use dots to represent players and the puck. I think something similar would be great for OOTP and would put the finishing touches on manager mode. |

You should have had a Billy Beane option. GM but in full control.

Acting as Owner in this poll I guess would best describe those who like to play in Commish mode and never be fired, are able to edit the teams financials so that they can set the budget, ticket prices, edit the ballparks, and of course, the old cash injection.

Although I have in the past played in both Manager-only (setting the AI to make roster moves, and me only doing line-ups and on-field) and GM/Manager, I voted GM since that's how I'm playing in my current league.
I still watch games, though. I just don't control anything in them. Simming loses a lot of the ability to get to know my players.

I read this before voting for Owner, of which I see that I'm the only one, despite Kronos claiming that's what he wanted. I would guess that most posters assumed that 'Owner' meant 'JUST an Owner', but it appears from reading Cras that he meant it as 'Manager, GM & Owner'.
