2007 and beyond
I have been reading alot of posts concerning the next version, 2008. My opinion here about talk of 2008 seems to be a bit premature. After what seems to be a big let down with 2006, which left a lot of unfinished, 2007 looks like it is going to be a winner. The comment I want to make here is just this, I hope the folks at SI leave nothing unfinished with 2007. I keep reading posts that this feature or that feature will be added in 2008, why can't we get a compleate sim with 2007, why can't everything that is being kicked around be added now or in futurw patches ?? My post does not have a negitive tone, I would just like to see this version finished and compleate as far as the bugs and things that just don't seem to work right.

FWIW - I think the important distinction to make is feature vs. bug. I believe the developer has the responsibility to attempt to fix any bug with this version via patch, and from what I've seen here over the years that's pretty much what is done. But if you want a new feature added (for example, sound) that isn't part of the game today, then that is definitely something I can understand if the developer responds by saying 'maybe next version'.

Becuse the way the game industry is, you need to bring out a new game every year. so patches are for fixes of bugs that need to happen and fetatures are added only in each new version. plus some of the things we want are major code changes that are going to take some time to code (regardless of how easy some will claim they would be). I'd think if you'd ask Marcus he's tell you that this version is Finished and compleate, there are things the comunity would like to see, but for a game in it's class it's pretty solid now.

As you've been reading the posts, you've seen that there are MANY different opinions of what would constitute a "finished" product. It's up to Markus and SI to determine what can/should be added to the game, and up to us to rejoice and complain.
As extensive as the beta bug testing team dug, it still pales in comparison to putting a product into thousands of hands to have them bang on it and find issues. That's why the patches are developed. SI releases a stable product initially, with the notion that, yes, there will be a patch to be released in the next few weeks. After that, there's generally some bantering back and forth about issues that arise, and at that point a second patch may be released. After that, there is usually a break where we wax poetic about the game and all of our dynasties. But in the back of our minds, right around Christmas, we get this tingle in the back of our necks that says that Markus is working on the new version....what's in it? will this be fixed? will it have current rosters? will it have a 2-D graphic engine? etc.... It's a sick little cycle, but it actually works for us. (well, it works for me) The game is fantastic as it stands, and the work by the modders takes up unknown notches! So yes, while we'd love a perfect game at the start, we really like the fact that Markus and SI give us the opportunity to voice our opinions in the effort to make a near-perfect game.

There will always be things that can be added, just like Bill James and others come up with new ways of looking at Stats in real baseball. You need to continue to grow your game. The day you sit back and say "It's complete and finished is the day you put yourself out of business, at least with that particular product. |

I guess features was the wrong word the use in my post, I think 2007 is good the way it is right now. I think I am just a bit nervous that some of the bugs that should have been fixed with the first patch, are still present, such as the "Pinch Runner" bug. Please don't get me wrong, I'm in now beating up on Markus and the boys. This is a fine product.

Because it's two guys coding the product, one who handles baseball items and one who handles plumbing items, plus an SI guy or two for special projects and/or to offer constructive criticism now and then. There are only so many hours in the day.

Features = new product = new customers = new money
Bugs = old product = no new customers = no new money |
