This is a good idea bout xm, I was able to get some mention on "The Show" with Dibble and Kennedy, last year. Just by calling in live.

I run a smaller, but somewhat popular Yankees website (actually linked on SI.com). The link is in my sig, and feel free to email me at garycurrier@gmail.com

I just fired off an email to Keith Olbermann. His love of baseball is well known. I doubt the email will even reach his desk, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

Would it be too expensive to advertise on gaming sites like ign, gamespy, gamespot, os, game informer, etc? I think it would be a great idea to advertise on these sites, especially on pages with arcade baseball reviews. I think that would draw in players who are looking for quality simulations and just don't know where to look other than the console. Also, would be happy to put a banner in my sigs for other forums that I frequent. Actually had a discussion about OOTP and BBM on a football site a couple days ago.

Mark, I see this comment, and perhaps that includes Schilling, but I wanted to push the idea of contacting Schilling through his blog one more time just in case -- from Curt's blog (About page):
... The main goal of this blog, in addition to being an open forum to communicate with fans of the Red Sox, Major League Baseball, and the Computer Gaming industry, is to continue to raise awareness of [ALS and Malignant Melanoma] and many more. ... If you've already sent him a personally addressed e-mail, may I suggest a follow-up? If not, do so. It may or may not yield a bunch of sales, but it's gotta be a great avenue. A major league baseball pitcher into gaming. He probably lives baseball too much to want to play it at home, but those who read his blog are surely more likely to be interested. I think framing the e-mail will be critically important, as the blog's primary focus is ALS awareness. Good luck. cbbl Last edited by cbbl; 04-10-2007 at 09:16 AM. |

How about the team at the FireJoeMorgan.com blog? Very popular with 'statheads', and they'd love the prominent inclusion of VORP all over the game. I don't know how they'd feel about hyping a product, though.

Type In Ootp Baseball On Google.com
TYPE IN OOTP BASEBALL ON GOOGLE.COM
The ad on the right is for "baseball mogul"...ouch Now that's competitive. When you type in baseball mogul, ootp doesnt have a link for it. Maybe it should. |

How about some print media?
USA Today Sports Weekly comes to mind. The majority of coverage is devoted to baseball during the summer months. They also print the occasional review of baseball related games books etc.... What about baseball blogs as well. SI.com links to each teams most popular blogs and fan sites when you go to their team capsules. I would also suggest some of the gaming boards like operation sports. I personally came across OOTP looking for a game to fill the void after the demise of the High Heat series. I think I found a free download of OOTP 2 at an abandonware site and loved it so much I immediately bought the latest version.

I found it exactly the same way (Home Of The Underdogs). As OOTP5 is already free, perhaps it would be an idea to get it hosted as many places as possible.

maybe you should try to advertise at minor league games like advertise in the scorebooks, etc.

That was tried last year for the Staten Island Yankees. I cannot locate any comment to see if this was valuable, worked, or continued for 2007. I do recall several posters mentioning that they heard the ad for a OOTP giveaway between innings.

I'm not sure if it's been tried already, but advertising on fantasy baseball sites seems logical.
Definitely would be reaching baseball fans, stats guys, and people who like the feeling of running a team / league. |
