The sad thing is that your boycotts dont even really matter. As much as I wish they did, they really dont. Anytime you buy a product that is owned by a MLB owner you are sponsoring MLB. Anytime you buy a product that was advertised during a baseball game (Tide, Budweiser, and about 20 other brands) you are supporting baseball. I wish there was a way to make a statement that MLB would get, but I doubt the fans have that much in the way of organization.

Thats like me boycotting the movie theaters but watching all of the movies when they come out on DVD.. they'll get you one way or another and you are really being senseless in your boycott if you love the game.

I agree with a lot of what other posts say.
I love baseball, I follow MLB, I love to go to the ballpark...if I can't do that, I find some game on the radio. Baseball's administration....yeah, it is horribly out of touch, I think. However, we all say how far the game has fallen and baseball is messed up. We're not the first, won't be the last. They've been saying "What is the matter with baseball?" since the dawn of the game. In the 1950s it was a recurring theme in the papers, in league offices and in the U.S. Congress.

<Its not a boycott if you just don't watch the games but follow it on the internet.. and don't say you don't follow on the internet/newspaper..
I don't know who 95% of the players are and haven't read an MLB boxscore in almost a decade. < or are you admitting that you don't know the Mac/Sosa story? howabout Bonds? how did you know that he was talking about a world series between the DBacks/Yankees... if you've been gone for 9 yrs, how the heck do you know who the DBacks are?? I don't live in a cave? I can read? <Thats like me boycotting the movie theaters but watching all of the movies when they come out on DVD.. they'll get you one way or another and you are really being senseless in your boycott if you love the game. I like baseball. I'd watch MLB if I liked it or didn't have something better to do with 3 hours of my time. Bad analogy. I don't watch MLB at the park or on my TV, which would be a better comparison.

I still love baseball, however MLB can be a bit annoying at times.

I don't want to sound like I'm one of those guys who yearns for the "good old days", but I learned to love baseball during a time when most players played most of their career with one or maybe two clubs, tops, and pitching, speed and defense were as valuable as power. 40 home runs was enough to lead the League. Scoring a run used to mean something. I love the game itself but I don't watch much MLB anymore because players move around too much and home runs are too cheap.

Baseball rules! I will always enjoy it & I will watch MLB games simply because it features the best players in the world.
I don't like some things MLB has done, but I guess I don't see the players greed as being one of their problems. A while ago baseball players were exploited; forced to play for the same team indefinitely for far below their value. Then Curt Flood comes along & has the courage to change things (and all but sacrafice his career). Now all people can complain about is the extraordinary amount of money the players make. They think that the big salaries have ruined the game, when all they have really done is shift the money from the owners to the players. The horrible end result is that players get paid their market worth & the owners don't get to pocket an unfair profit by exploiting them. What a horrible world we live in where the workers are paid fairly & are able to get back a portion of what they help others (owners) make. Sometimes we take baseball too seriously. We think that because we played catch with our dads & played in little league when we were little that we own the game or are more sincere in our love of the game than the players. With all the levels of playing it takes to reach the majors (little league, high school, college, winter ball, A, AA, AAA, etc. I don't know if one could make it to the show without liking playing baseball. But it's also a job, we seem to forget that. & I don't care if you are making $20,000, $40,000 or $10 mil a year, nobody seeks out to be payed under their value, so I can't really blame any player for looking out for themselves in the same way I would. As for strikes, I hate them. But they are sometimes inevitable in business. It's not like they are horrible people for striking, teachers strike & car plant manufacturers strike and we don't think less of them & if somebody came up to me and said they wouldn't buy anything from my company because we striked four years ago I would tell them to kiss off. Why are the rules all changed for athletes? |

Like I said, I watch the MLB because it puts the best players on the field, but here are my top 3 peeves with the MLB:
3. Numbers are too inflated, deaden the ball already. 2. Steroids & other dangerous performance enhancing drugs: the real failure of the last negotiations. Not only does it cheapen the product, but it endangers the lives of the players. They are put in a situation where they must choose to either risk their lives with the substances or play on an unlevel playing field with those that do. Why would the union oppose this? and most important by far... 1. I can't afford to go to a game anymore! |

My problem is that I've been a Royals fan all my life. I don't have a second team that I like. My grandfather used to play minor league ball for a Cardinals farm club, but I can never think about the Cards without laughing at their loss in '85. As such, I can barely bear to watch baseball, because it breaks my heart every year.
