What a Throw!!!
I regret to say that I don't have the actual image of the play-by-play for this, but I swear this is what happened:
Man on first, no out. Batter lays down a bunt, fielded by the catcher in front of the plate. Catcher throws to second for the force out, but his throw is wild, and goes into the outfield. Batter advances to second, since "The ball went out of play"!!!!! My goodness, I've never heard of someone throwing a ball from home over the outfield wall! |

Not to go against the fun everyone is having, but what about the catcher playing the ball just shy of the P's mound, throwing the ball over the 1B's head and into the outfield, but the line takes it into the stands down the RF line?

I don't know....the wording was that he fielded it just in front of the plate and threw to second.

20+ years ago in one of the first softball games I ever played I threw one from deep CF clear over the huge backstop that covered the plate area - and not by a little bit either - way, way over. I wasn't use to the larger ball at that point in my life.
not exactly the same since it was opposite direction, and not funny at the time, but funny as hell now.

Sorry, let me try again.
The catcher fielded the bunt right in front of the plate. He then threw to second (not first) to try to catch the runner there. So presumably an off-throw towards second should end up somewhere in center field. I mean, it could've gone out on the RF side. Any guess is good. |

Sounds to me like the catcher fielded the ball, tried to nail the runner at second, but in his excitement he threw the ball so hard it landed in the centerfield field bleachers. In my opion, that catcher has a great arm, he just gets a little too excited in the moment. I would love to see this in real life.

Didn't John Elway do this? I thought I heard he did was able to throw a baseball over the wall from homeplate.

The closest thing I could think of would be catchers interference.
The catcher collides with the batter/runner while fielding the ball. He throws while off balance and the throw goes into the outfield. The centerfielder fields the ball and gets it back to the infield. The umpires then kill the play and award the batter runner second and advance the runner at second to third. Ruling that if the batter runner had not been interfered with by the catcher the resulting wild throw would have allowed the runners to arrive at the bases awarded. Yes, it is a stretch but its the only scenario that I can come up with to justify the play. Personally I think it is a very minor bug that is a PBP problem in that the result is decided and the PBP is then matched to the play as best as it can.

Another funny one
How about a ground ball pas the pitchers mound--so presumably the ball hits the ground somewhere between the plate and the mound, and rolls to the center field wall going for a triple. Iknow, I know--I should mentally assume that the center fielder over ran the ball or something, but c'mon the ball rolls all the way to the fence? Funny

It could happen.
Ben Chapman of the Yankees once threw a baseball 392 feet, 10 inches on September 24, 1931 as part of a benefit exhibition game at the Polo Grounds, and the world record for throwing a baseball is 445 feet, 10 inches.

I once tee'd up a golf ball at home plate and sent it all the way to the running track at my High School in Florida. It actually hit the ashphalt track and rocketed into a nearby housing development, where it promptly broke a window. The next day in school, my buddies saw what I had done, and had a good laugh because they said they never saw me run so fast trying to get out of there.

Trevor Hoffman get in trouble for doing that at Chase Field Hitting seven iron shots into the scoreboard. He was billed for several thousand dollars worth of damage. He must not have thought that golf balls hitting tv screen would do damage.
