3289 - Wild Card Standings with No Playoffs

Not a bug, but just a question...is there a reason we have to have the wild card standing shown for 1-subleague leagues with no playoff? It's confusing, and of course, unnecessary. Would be nice if that could be removed when playoffs are disabled.

No, there's no reason for them to be there. I would expect not showing them is either more complicated than it seems, or it is considered a very minor cosmetic issue and thus is far down the list of things to be tweaked.

Actually, this isn't just a cosmetic issue, based on what I just simmed out in one of my leagues. I mean, it's cosmetic in the sense that it really didn't affect anything, but it's clear now that the "disable playoffs" feature only partially works.

In my 8-team league, the first-place team won the league by 5 games. No problem. But the second and third-place teams tied, and had a playoff as if they were deciding the wild card. So they played an unnecessary 155th game, and the standing show them as 5.5 and 6.5 games out of first. Now the issue is changing the game in an admittedly small aspect, but still...

And of course, regardless of outcome every year, the news items refer to the upcoming playoffs. Yes, that's truly cosmetic, but I still think it goes to show that the option to disable playoffs (and that's virtually any single league, no division league structure we can create) hasn't really been thought through and is only partially implemented. Showing WC standings is the most visible sign of the issue.

I understand thisis a small thing, but I hope it at least makes the list somewhere for tweaking/correcting.

The way I can figure this option to work is that it just skips the playoffs when the playoffs are supposed to start. For the rest of the season, the game behaves as if there will be postseason. And since you have a 1 subleague, 1 division league, the only postseason option applicable is the division winner + wildcard team. I know there are two options in the drop down list, but if you select the no wildcard option, the game will reselect the wildcard option for you. That is why you see wildcard standings. Split up into two divisions, or two sub-leagues, and select the no wildcard option, and you will see the standings go away.

I tt'd this some time ago. TT # 3289 - set to be fixed in the patch(es)
