are you SURE the game is freezing.

some of those calculations (free agency, for example) can take a looooong time, especially on a lower end system - long enough to make you think the game has frozen.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

nate, it may say not responding but that is not always true, when it is going through something that takes a long time it will say not responding because it is trying to finish the calculations and won't let you break into it. I have it happen a lot where it will say that but once it finishes what it is working on it is fine.

the game does not report back to windows while it is doing some of this stuff, so windows may think the game is not responding.

how fast is your computer? how much memory?

Just curious, but what rosters are you using when it freezes? I used a set of the GeForce rosters, and for some reason, anytime I did anything, it froze or close the game. I would recommend trying a different roster. See if that helps

Nate, In your OOTP5 folder is a file called Game Configuration.exe. Open that file.
From in there, you can enable and disable sound and D3D. Hope this helps.

this is all it says. AMD-K6(tm) 3D Processor
56.0MB Ram.
Then when i look through all the other tabs it says i have 58% free space so it should be workin. But i will wait a little lgoner when it says not responding. I usually wait about 5 minutes.

that's definitely on the low end, especially with the memory.

5 minutes probably isn't long enough to wait. seriously. it's probably still working through the stuff.

I just read through this post, and I have some input.

That ESS Allegro card is likely not DirectX certified.

I have an IBM Aptiva, three years old, with an ESS sound card.

I discovered, quite to my horror, that the sound card, on the motherboard, is non-DirectX certified...and remains uncertified to this day, despite a series of driver updates. They just don't care. I have corresponded with their tech support, called them, everything.

After messing with it for 2 YEARS, I broke down and bought a generic soundcard, fully soundblaster compatible.

There are DOZENS of games which would lock, due to the damned sound card. Every single one ran perfectly after disabling the ESS sound card, and point the program at the new one.

This may or may not be your problem, but if it looks like a fish, and smells like a fish.....

i have 192 megs of RAM on my laptop and it's a little on the slow side with OOTP, so 56megs is gonna drag on for a while.

Like DD said, only way to fix it is to upgrade your RAM.
