Just did the initial draft and all the players were real guys. The draft was 8 rounds plus two choices in round 9.

There will be an option in setup to fill minor leagues with fictional players if you want to do that.

May 10, 1993
Cubs starter Frank Castillo shut down the Marlins on just 3 singles as the offense, last in the Majors in runs scored goes down by a score of 3-0. The Marlins also suffered a big blow as catcher Joe Girardi was involved in a collision at home plate in the 6th and suffered a pinch nerve in his neck, Girardi is expected to miss about 3 weeks of action.

May, 11 1993
SP Darling goes to 0-6 as the Marlins lose again 4-2. Kevin Maas went deep for his 6th homer, but first since the 11th of April.

May 12, 1993
The Cubs sweep the Marlins as SP Greg Maddux shuts the fish down allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings. Glavine allowed only 2 runs in 6 but Marlins reliever Doug Simons was tagged for 3 in the 9th. Catcher Brian Harper went 3 for 4 and Eric Davis added 2 hits and drove in one. The Marlins activated Joe Carter from the D/L after the game.

May 13, 1993
An off day, as the Marlins prepare for their 1st visit to Coors Field to face the other expansion team the Colorado Rockies.

May, 14 1993
The Marlins come into the game with a record of 12-21 and the Rockies sit at 13-23 in a game referred to as the Expansion Bowl. The Marlins seem to breathe easier in the thin air and put up an 8-1 victory. Hershiser pitches his best game in a month going 7 1/3 and Samuel hits his 3rd. Six players have at least 2 hits with Harper leading the way with his 2 straight 3-hit game.

May 15, 1993
The Rockies get 2 in the ninth off Dibble and beat the Marlins 6-5. Brian Harper stays hot with 2 hits including his 1st home run of the year, Ken Caminiti added 3 hits. After the game Marlin manager Rene Lachemann announced the Jeff Montgomey would take over the closing duties. Dibble is 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA and 2 blown saves, Montgomery is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA.

May 16, 1993
SP Ron Darling gets his first win of the season as he goes 7 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits in a 3-1 Marlins win. Montgomery got the save and Brain Harper continues his hot streak with 2 more hits, Harper is 11 for 23 since Girardi went down with an injury. With the Marlins playing 13 straight days they have been looking for a backup for Harper, but no decision has been made yet.

The Marlins rebounded after losing 3 straight to the Cubs by winning 2 out of 3 in Colorado. With Harper filling in nicely for the injured Girardi and the starting pitching improving, the team travels to Philadelphia for 3 and then are home for 7 games against Montreal and Pittsburgh, their record sits at 14-22.

On the 16th the players eligible for the amateur draft were announced and the top hitters and pitchers are listed below. The draft will take place on June 15.

Are you managing every game or letting the CPU handle the misery from time to time? A-Rod would look good on the Marlins!

I manage every Marlins game one game at a time. And yes A-Rod would be a nice addition to this team, but, I think I am going to have the 2nd pick in the draft behind Colorado, at least thats the way it's supposed to be, hopefully the want to go with a pitcher

I'm a little curious....for historical players....is it best to play w/ scouts on or off? I would think that since potential is based on an actual career, a human owner would pretty much be an excellent scout.

The Marlins drop a pitchers duel to Philly in 11 innings 2-1. Glavine goes into the 7th allowing 1 run on just 2 hits and the bullpen holds the Phillies hitless until the 11th. The Marlins sent it into extra innings by scoring a run in the 9th as Maas singled home Harper. But Perez, the Marlins 5th pitcher of the night allowed a two out single for a Phillies win.

May 18, 1993
Mike Morgan wins his 3rd straight decision going 8 and allowing 1 run on 3 hits. Morgan beat Philly pitcher Curt Schilling, as the Marlins scored 1 in the 8th and 9th for the win. Harper, Hammonds and Brett each had 2 hits.

May 19, 1993
Brian Harper continues his hot hitting and Orel Hershiser goes 7 strong innings as the Marlins take the series rubber game from the Phillies 6-1. Harper had 2 hits, drove in 3 runs including his 2nd HR. Joe Carter also had 3 hits including his 2nd homer. Hershiser threw his second straight strong game giving up just 1 run on 4 hits.

May 20, 1993
The home stand starts with a 10-6 Marlins loss to the Expos. Hammonds goes deep with #6 and Viola gets hit hard in 6+ innings or work.

May 21, 1993
Hammonds hits a solo shot in the 7th for a 3-2 Marlins winner. Darling wins his 2nd in a row going 7 innings as Montgomery gets his 3rd save.

May 22, 1993
The Expos score 2 in the first and hang on for a 2-1 victory. Montreal pitcher Dennis “El Presidente” Martinez allows just 1 run on 3 hits to notch his 200th victor of his Major League career. (see below)

May 23, 1993
The fish drop 3 of 4 at home to the Expos losing 8-4. Harper gets 3 hits and raises his average to .337, Harper is now hitting .423 since replacing Girardi behind the plate giving Lachemann a tough decision to make when Joe returns in a week or so.

After winning 2 straight series against Colorado and Philadelphia on the road, home cooking is not the meal as the Marlins lose 3 of 4 to Montreal. Next stop 3 at home against Pittsburgh and on to the West Coast to face the Padres.

Good assumption, I would tend to agree with you on that.

Teams protected 25 players, other than that just make sure you are the GM the year before your team starts. Draft will be held a couple days after the World Series. It runs much like the amateur, just 2 teams drafting, I used serpentine style.

Thanks! I tried the same thing, going back to 1998 so that the teams would have pretty decent minor league systems once the expansion draft rollled around in 2003. I protected 22 per team, and found very, very slim pickings in the expansion draft. I wonder if it only allows guys from teh 25 man roster to be exposed.

The Marlins open up a 3 game series vs the Pirates with a 4-2 loss. Brian Haper continues his hot hitting going 2 for 4 including his 4th homer of the year. Hershiser’s record drops to 4-4 as the Marlins drop their 3rd straight.

May 25, 1993
The fish get 10 hits but can only muster up 2 runs as the drop their 4th game in a row by a score of 7-2. Lance Johnson hits an inside-the –park 2 run homer, his 1st of the year in the 1st, but Viola couldn’t make it past the 3rd inning allowing 6 runs.

May, 26, 1993
Ron Darling wins his 3rd straight and RF Jeffrey Hammonds goes 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a 2-run HR for a 3-2 Marlins win. After on 0-4 April with an ERA over 6, Darling has turned it around in May, going 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA.

May 27, 1993
Off day, the Marlins send reliever Doug Simons to AAA and activate Lee Smith from the DL.

May, 28, 1993
Bruce Hurst of San Diego shuts out the Marlins on 5 singles as the Marlins trip to the West Coast begins with a 3-0 loss.

May 29, 1993
Hershiser goes 8 allowing 1 run on 4 hits in a 5-0 Marlins win. Ricky Jordan drives in a pair as 9 diferent Marlins hit safely as they improve their record to 19-29.

May 30, 1993
O-Fense arrive in San Diego and it’s surprisingly Marlin’s O-Fense. The fish bust loose for 9 runs, including a 2-run blast by Jeff Huson and 2 long bombs by 1B Kevin Maas. Maas scored 3 runs and drove in 4 in the Marlins 9-4 victory. Huson drove in 3 and Ken Caminiti had 3 hits as the Marlins go to 12-10 on the road.

No chris you have a shot at everyone in the organzation. Take a look at who I picked up with picks #27, 28, 29. They are very young and only in A Ball.

27. SS Chipper Jones
28. RF Shawn Green
29. LF Carl Everett

Any chance you may want to deal Viola and give a young guy a shot?

Yes Jestor, believe me I am trying to trade any vets I can to bring in some young talent, but except for picking up the 22 year old Hammonds I haven't had much luck in getting younger talent, but I'm going to keep trying, thanks for the heads up.

The Marlins end the month with a loss in Houston 5-0, the 7th time they have been shutout. Caminiti gets 3 hits and Darling’s personal win streak ends at 3.

June 1, 1993
Another loss to the ‘Stros this time 5-4. Juan Samuel goes deep for his 4th of the year. In other news Ryne Sandburg collected his 2000th Major League hit for the Cubs. Sandberg also accumulated 10 Gold Gloves and 10 All-Star selections in his 12 seasons with the Cubs.

June 2, 1993
Glavine throws 7 shutout innings but the pen allows 5 in the 8th as the fish get swept by Houston 5-2. Joe Carter hit his 3rd of the year. Following the game the Marlins announced the trading of Eric Davis to the California Angels for SP Albie Lopez. The 22 year old Lopez was 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA at AAA Birmingham. Lopez was sent to AAA Kentalnd and Joe Girardi was moved to the active roster form the D/L.

June 3, 1993
Off day, back home to face San Diego.

June 4, 1993
Offense continues to struggle in a 3-1 loss to the Padres, Joe Girardi is 0 for 4 in his return for the D/L.

June 5, 1993
The offense scores 5 runs, but Viola can’t make it out of the 2nd inning in a 12-5 loss to the Pads. Jeff Huson has 3 hits and drives home 2 in the loss.

June 6, 1993
Marlins finish the week with a 7-5 loss, their 6th in a row. Carter hits his 4th but the fish go to 8-22 at home. In some good news A-Ball SS Chipper Jones was named the leagues Player of the Week. Jones hit .421 with 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s. Chipper is hitting .309 with 7 homers at 26 ribbies on the season.

The Marlins get back on track with a 6-5 victory over the visiting Reds in 12 innings. Joe Carter hit his 5th of the year and Ricky Jordan had the walk off single in the 12th to drive home Craig Shipley who had doubled with 2 outs. Mike Perez got the win with 2 2/3 innings or scoreless relief.

June 8, 1993
Florida makes it two in a row with an identical 6-5 win over the Reds. Joe Carter homered in his 3rd straight game. Carter’s homer his 6th came in the 8th to give the fish the lead. After the game the team announced a trade, sending 33 year old SP Frank Viola and 30 year old AAA outfielder Cecil Espy to Detroit for 22 year old SP Jason Bere. Bere had made 19 appearances for the Tigers AAA team. Bere had a 1.97 ERA in 82 innings he allowed just 53 hits, struck out 91 and walked 38. He will take Viola’s spot in the rotation.

June 9, 1993
The Marlins hit a season high 4 HR’s but lose to the Reds 11-9. Long balls by Hammonds (9), Maas (9), Caminiti (3) and Jordan (3) just wasn’t enough as 4 Marlin pitchers allowed 11 runs on 17 hits.

June 10, 1993
The Marlins move on to Pittsburgh and lose to the Pirates 3-2 in 10 innings. Jason Bere makes his first appearance in a Marlins uniform and gives up just 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. Ricky Jordan accounts for the only runs with a 2-run blast in the 4th.

June 11, 1993
Darling goes 8 innings allowing 1 run on just 2 hits. Hammonds has 2 hits and drives in 2 runs as the Marlins beat Pittsburgh 4-3. The Marlins add a good looking young hitter to the team, as they pick up 1B/OF Cliff Floyd from the NY Mets. Florida sends 1B/OF Ricky Jordan and veteran pitchers Mike Morgan and Lee Smith. The 20 year old Floyd a 1st round pick of the Mets in 1992 was hitting .260 for the Mets AAA team. Floyd will report to the Marlins for Saturday’s game.

June 12, 1993
The Marlins drop another 1-run game this time 7-6. Kevin Maas hits number 10, but the pen struggles through a rainy day in Pittsburgh. The Marlins called up SP Albie Lopez and MR Doug Simons from AAA Kentland before the start of the game.

June 13, Orel Hershiser get knoced around and sees his ERA jump to over 8 in June as the Marlins get smoked 11-1. Rookie Cliff Floyd gets his 1st Major League hit and stolen base in the loss.

In a week that looked good and bad, the Marlins made some moves that will get them younger and moving in the right direction. The week also another milestone, as Oakland’s Carney Lansford collected the 2000th hit of his Major League career. Lansford is in his 16th season. In another newsworthy item a rather strange injury to the Brewers Gerald Perry (see below).
