You don't owe any of the posters a damn thing, and you take your time on the rosters.
I think it's fine that you can't speak for everyone. There were very few "vultures" in that thread, although there was a heated debate over the use of the word "promise" and what it entitled someone to (an explanation, the rosters, AP's first-born, etc.). Nearly all of the people who were expressing frustration either apologized or mentioned, at times repeatedly, that they were very appreciative that someone was taking the time to put this roster set together. The focus from both sides, unfortunately, seemed to be interpreting the other side's posts in a negative light, and it just got out of hand. There were one or two posters on both sides who seemed to enjoy arguing their point vehemently, which served only to stir the pot more.

Erich, I appreciate your explanation - it was probably more in-depth than necessary but hopefully it will make the posters who were highly frustrated think about things more before posting, and be calmer. Regardless of the quoted poster's comment, I do believe that it is common courtesy to offer a post of explanation, which you have done (and in plenty of time, I might add - it was frustrating to see posters jumping to conclusions simply because there was no response for a day).

I'm looking forward to playing with the roster set at some point. I think it's great that you've volunteered to be the one to provide it. I hope that your daughter is healthy and your business succeeds, and I also hope that from time to time you pop on to post an update as to how things are progressing with the roster set.

Thanks!

That is the reason for the silence. The rosters will occur and I apologize for all the delays in the rosters. They are my fault and no one elses. I had expected to finish a test file for the beta team at the end of February but due to my job I ran into some time constraints for that time frame. Then I had it set up to have them ready to go with release of the game, but ran into an issue with the health of my 1 year old daughter and spent the better part of a week and a half in and out of hospitals and doctors offices trying to find out what was going on and how to fix the problems she was having.

So there for there were some parts that had not been updated on the file and I gave it to AP to try and clean those up but didn't really give him enough time. So if you want someone to blame for this you can blame me.

I am the roster maker and I am the one who did not finish on time.

So I am categorically telling you that there will be a set released but I presently don't have the most up to date version as I have been working long hours trying to finish up the 1st quarter on a strong note with my business(sorry but my clients and family take precedence over this stuff).

My intention was not to resurrect the previous thread. It was simply meant as a playful jab. I sincerely apologize if you took my playful jab as a haymaker

I disagree. I think everyone is just chomping at the bit for some badass rosters. It flared up this morning, but it's been fine since. It's an isolated issue.

Your point being what? Real world is and always will be more important that a text game. Erich got busy with his job, you know, that pays for his lifestlyle and his family. Erich had to take care of his daughter and not worry about this roster set. If you think you're owed anything by anyone who was doing this as a favor to the community, then I would hate to see where your priorities lie. I hope one year there isn't a roster set released by anyone so the few of you who bitch and whine when they aren't done can truly see what you have been taking for granted.

Erich, take your time. Most of us can wait until need be.

Oh my gooooooooosh ........

I'm quite certain this horse has been scolded, punched, kicked, beaten with a stick, had a stick of dynamite shoved in his hole, blown up, any remaining piecies put in blender, dumped down the sink drain, turned the disposal on ... and is quite dead.

The next time we need rosters, I think we should consider taking advantage of the large labor force in Southeast Asia. They work 20 hours a day... and for peanuts. We could have little OOTP Roster sweatshops all over China.

Someone wants a personalized roster set? Bam! Sent to them the very next day.

I agree. I'm embarrassed that he's an Indian fan as well.

it never ceases to amaze me that people think they deserve things for free when they demand them.

Take your time on the roster's guys. I don't care if they aren't released until June. I can wait.

Thanks for doing all the hard work.

I have to admit, that I am not a real-life roster OOTPer, but I can appreciate the time it would take to create these, especially with real life getting in the way.

However, I have been lurking in this thread because it shows in great detail the decline in western civilization by means of the age of entitlement.

I realize people are upset, but the rosters may come out faster if some of you just kept it to yourself and kicked your dog or cat instead.

Oh don't do that! Just punch a wall. Rather have the whiners hurt than an innocent dog or cat.

I wonder if Ross Perot ever envisioned the outsourcing of leisure activity as being included in that "giant sucking sound". lol

Here's the problem: We are depending on volunteers for what some of us would consider an integral part of the game. I am very grateful for Erich and APujols5 work on the roster set. They are awesome. The should never have to be in this situation though. This is a problem created by SI's policy, not by them.

Note to Markus / Marc: For 2008 can we please have an official SI roster set? I'm not asking for an MLB license (mostly because of the roster restrictions, not the extra cost which I would be willing to pay for a full roster set on opening day). But couldn't you pay someone under the table to get a roster set done with the release. And if there were legal problems with an official sanctioned roster set, couldn't you still pay someone to have an un-official set done with the release?

He could run into a legal situation in some way I assume. Best way is just to have a beta team put a roster set together (can't be SI because of the legalities) and just have it ready for release of the game. Even if the roster creators charged 9.99 for their set, I would be more than willing to pay that.

What SI (OOTP) could do is release the game with a sound fictional "name" roster set that correspond directly to MLBers and prospects. It would be just a matter of converting the names over to their real counterparts. Frankly, I'm not sure why this isn't already happening.

That is one heck of an idea. You see video games do that for players not in the MLBPA
