one of the earlier posts asks markus to get to work on a basketball game. i can't disagree more. i am sure markus could put out a good game but i can't help but think that when ootp11 comes out we will have close to an almost perfect baseball experience and in the meantime many great experiences playing the upgrades in between. playing sim games is my hobby and it's hard to express the disappointment at games like fof and tcy. games that come out that are fun to play but are far from the finished product that they can be. jim gindin seems to be very capable of putting out great games but unfortunately instead of attempting to perfect the product he moves on to a new project. that is his right but i for one am frustrated by games that you know can eventually be on the level of championship manager but the developer is anxious to move on to a new project. it is incredible to me that there is not a really good career sim football game on the market - yes fof is good but it will be on hold as far as future improvements are concerned as long as ea sports controls it. so please don't put ideas concerning new projects in markus's head. he is the one developer who seems committed to getting it right. i don't care how long it takes- i for one will support him for as long as it takes.

I think he meant more time working on other stuff = less time working on OOTP.
I tend to agree.

In general I do agree with him. Markus is awesome with this, and if he split his time between OOTP and another game OOTP might get neglected.

I think a pretty good analogy is Jim Gindin and front office football, which started out as a great series but did need a lot of improvement. Had Jim kept with and concentrated on pro football, I believe we would be on FOF5 and have a great game. Instead he switched his interests to TCY which was pretty good, but again needed some improvements. He sold FOF to EA who of course ruined it completely. Now the question is will TCY improve or will he go on to something else.
Of course Jim and Markus need to work on what they truly want to work on, only a labor of love can produce a truly great game. But for my two cents I hope Markus can continue to find the joy and challenge in improving OOTP.

my opinion is that Markus doesnt have to work on a bakestball or football but just hire people who are as dedicated as him and with the same determination for perfection he has.

I have carried around a design document for a college basketball simulation for 2-3 years. But I just wonder what the interest would level would be.
College basketball happens to be my favorite sport (HUGE Georgia Tech fan here), and I lurk on all the recruiting boards, and watch probably 4-5 hoops games a week. But I'm sure I'm in the minority there! Joe |

Joe,
I think you'd find there is tremendous interest for a college basketball game, especially if all teams were represented. I'd be first in line to buy it too.

Well Joe,
That would be fantastic if you could develop a basketball simulation as long as it is as in depth as ootp has been. Maybe you could do a Pro version too and then sell them as a package deal. Just dont forget about ootp. lol. But hey if you 3 can get enough programmers as dedicated as you three why not do all the major sports the way they are suppose to be simulated. Um, just dont bother with figure skating or that broom stick sport they had, we may be sport game fanatics but we're not that big of a sport fanatic. lol. That is if you can call those sports. |
