I'm just not getting it...

How do you play this game with real teams and the real players? I've tried the MOD thing, but don't have a clue about the proper way to use them. Don't understand how you download them before starting a league and get them to work. I'm assuming a lot of people play this game to play with there favorite team with their real players playing against all the other real teams like it really was baseball right? I'm excited about playing this, but I can't figure this thing out. Gone to the Padrefans sight and the mod squad one, but I'm still able to get any of those things to work. I read in another thread about how you need to just put the folder in the data file and just works. I'm on a MAC by the way. So I do that and nothing changes. Can anybody help me? Is this not a game that is possible to play with the real players and teams? I'm totally new to this game, so forgive me for my ingnorance. Thanks and take it easy.

Forgive me if I'm being too basic, but have you made sure that you don't have the game open when you put the mods in their proper places, and then re-start the game?

I just forgot about this myself, and had to exit and re-start. Alls well now.

G'luck with it. Between all of us here, we *should* be able to get you up and running, depending on what you want to do.

Welcome to the OOTP addiction!

I'm sure some of our Mac experts will be in to help soon...did you check the manual?

psi, which template are you looking at changing, specifically? Which file on padres' site?

I was looking at Icy's template and then I guess I would still need to fix the ballparks and then get a roster from the MODsquad site right? Do you play with the real players and teams. If so, what do you use? Thanks again.

psi...

One thing you have to realize is that the game doesn't come with "real" rosters. Therefore, you need to wait for someone to release a custom roster set.

Since it's so soon since launch, these haven't been completed yet. For example, see the roster sticky thread in this forum. Once they are completed, it's likely that they will have detailed instructions for how to get up and running, and it's likely that someone will have a set that takes care of everything - teams, players, ballparks, logos, photos, etc.

My personal recommendation would be to play around with a fictional league for a bit, while you wait for the roster-makers to finish getting organized!

Good luck!

Thank you. I'll just chill out then. I just wasn't ready for it to not have all that in it already, so I was just trying like hell to make it work. I'm glad to hear there will be a loadable template soon that will have everything in it to make the game like it would be if I were playing in the MLB. Thanks again. Peace.

You can use the Lahman DB if you want real players up through the 2006 season. Doing this is pretty simple and only takes a few steps.

1. Download the Lahman DB from one of the many OOTP mod sites.

2. Unzip the Lahman to a directory of your choosing. I usually create a Lahman DB folder in a seperate OOTP mods folder.

3. To get the uniforms, download them and copy the uniforms to your "jerseys" folder which is a subdirectory of the data folder. The path is "My Documents/Sports Interactive/OOTP Baseball 2007/data/jerseys. Put the logos in the "logos" folder and the caps in the "ballcaps" folder. If you use any custom ballparks, they go in the "ballparks" folder.

Note: All of these folders are located in the "data" folder that I mentioned above.

4. If you want player picture, you can download them and place them in the player photos directory which is also a subdirectory of the above mentioned data directory.

5. Create an OOTP historical league and select the patch to the master.csv file that will be located in your Lahman DB folder.

6. Finish league setup.

7. Run your league. You should see the correct team colors, logos, jerseys, caps and pictures.

Give this a try and post back if you have any other questions. I am doing this from memory so I might have missed something along the way.

Hope this helps.

One day major league sports will realize that small indy publishers aren't out to steal their dimes and nickles and will let them make games with real rosters, city and nicknames, and we will have an all-in-one roster set with all the fixings that no one has to remember where to put this or that to make it all work.

Just start the game and you are off playing in your real world.

I believe it is sooner than later, but, I can dream. Opening day rosters with OOTP with real players, stadiums, cities etc.. worldwide. Man that would make me a happy camper.

Unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to sell their license to big companies if they were giving it away free to small ones.

No but charging different levels of participation wouldn't hurt either.

EA is digging their own grave anyway.

You've got a couple of guys in here who are the best of the best when it comes to helping out. You're in good hands.

As Steve (battists) says, try your hand with some 'fake' stuff first. Hopefully by Sunday, you'll know your way around the game better.

Good to have you as a fellow player.
