Please explain team chemistry

How much does it matter in OOTP5? What raises or lowers it? How important is it to find team leaders?

I currently have a team at 100 percent team chemistry. Does that mean they're playing over their heads?

Even playing well under .500, the chemistry is holding together at 99 percent.

Just don't see where it really matters.

I think this has to do with the amount of leadership your team has. If you have several guys with good leadership your chemistry is good and you may pull out a few close games or make a surge at the end of the season.

At least, thats what I think SHOULD be the case.

I believe it would be something like that as well ..

I currently have 100 for team chemistry and I assume, as Rockpile basically said, that it makes the team play more together and maybe pull out more games then they normally would, compile hot streaks .. etc etc.

However, it would be interesting to know what actual effect the manager's special skills have on the game ... I sincerely hope that these aren't just cosmetic things.

Anyone know for sure?

Team Chemistry was at 95 and I lost 120 games. Can you imagine if my guys weren't playing together?

This raises the issue that I noted in other threads regarding managers skills, and arguing calls. There has always been a gray area over certain aspects of the game which makes you wonder "are these just bells and whistles". Mind you, these are not game breakers so these aren't major issues. But it would be good if there was some concrete documentation as the the cause and effect of these options.

Im assuming team chemistry is suppose to potentially help your team pull out more games. You could have a team that loves each other and still stink, and visa versa, not all good teams love each other.

I really dont think it has anything to do with performance. I think it's just another bell and whistle in the game. The only thing that I could think it would help is your manager performance. Perhaps if you have little team chemistry it would hurt your job security. Otherwise I think it's just there for fun.

Is the team chemistry level just in manager mode?

Care to comment on what effect (if any) it has on the team's actual performance, Steve?

point

And why would it only be in one of the game modes if it didn’t affect anything?

It should be tougher to get a 100 though. It should be most rare.

Well I would say that the "Team Chemistry" is just another bell and whistle feature. Haven't you guys ever noticed that when someone questions a feature that is in the game. If this feature actually means anything. Usually Steve will let you know. When he doesn't answer, then you have to figure the feature is merely cosmetic. Like the argue with umpire option. I remember people asking what the Argue with umpire feature affects? Steve and Markus never answered as far as I know. Which pretty much told us that it affected nothing, accept the possibility of getting your ass tossed from the game. Now with this thread Steve had to see the question "What does team Chemistry affect?" Instead he
chose not to answer, except to say that the feature is available only in Manger mode. So it would seem that Team Chemistry is just a cosmetic feature. Would that be a fair assessment Steve?

......

I think it does have a little to do with things. My team was sucking for awhile, so during the offseason I decide to only sign guy with leadership potential better than normal or none, I then traded away my two of my highest paid guys...(Odalis Perez and Shawn Green...it's like 2008 so don't panic.) And traded them for 2 yound stars.

Anyways, to make a long story short, all of my aquisitions were only 1 or two star people, but great leaders...team chemistry was 100 all year and I ended up going to the world series, with a team that deserved to be a little over .500 at best!

I lean toward Night2000's explanation. If we can't figure it out, it's not obvious, and is not talked about at all in the manual, it's just eye candy (maybe with future plans in mind).

I only have 1 leader, all others are NONE, and my chemistry is 100 percent and I'm in manager mode.

No, a fair assessment would be that......I don't know everything about the game, believe it or not. I have emailed Markus asking him about this area but have not gotten a response, hence my silience.

As soon as I get any info I will post here.

Perhaps team chemistry is related to the presence of, or ability to locate and distribute, er.. performance enhancing additives? You know, the Boomer Wells/ Jose Canseco syndrome.

That's fair enough. Thank you
