Redskins released me... NOOOOO!!!
Well not really... The Reskins released Stephen Davis, which just happens to be my name, well I spell it the a "v".
They did it to cut salary, and they also released former starting safety Sam Shade and tight end Walter Rasby. Anyone have any idea on who will sign Davis? I haven't been following this year's offseason very well. I've heard Dallas, but not sure how reliable that source is.

Ahh, I love it...
...the 'Skins are doing brilliantly in their efforts to remain an NFL joke. I give Steve Spurrier two more seasons to run his QB-derby and to make utterly ridiculous coaching decisions before he realizes he should never have left the college game. So much fun...

That's about as long as Ron Zook will last in Florida and then Steve can have his old job back...................... Not that I want to see him back in the SEC or anything! Worst of all--Spurrier is from Tennessee!!

I'd say that the Texans and the Cowboys (who are expected to release Emmitt today) are both interested in a RB of Davis' ability.

The thing about Spurrier is - if you're going to act all smug and superior, you better have the ability to back it up. Undoubtedly, he did have that ability at the college game, he just seems like a pompous ass in the pro game, since he clearly doesn't have it.

Spurrier's recruiting far outweigh his coaching abilities. He doesn't get that chance in the NFL. He is another in the Rick Pitino mold. Start with a competitive advantage because you can recruit, and get your ego blown up that you are some coaching god, then try the pros and get blown out of the water.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge Spurrier boys.. he took over a team in turmoil and went 7-9 with a team that should have been 7-9.
Stephen Davis is a good running back... no doubt, but there was much more to this move. He is not the type of running back needed to make Spurrier's attack successful.. and he is making money out the @#$.. so why would you want to pay a back (with a salary cap) that is not what you are looking for? Enter Trung Canidate. Speed Back= Spurrier Back. Give him some time to do his own thing, particularily get a QB, and I think you all will be inserting foot in mouth.

Well it was a good move for Davis. he need a team that will base their decision on whats best for the team...not just pass all the time like Washington. I agree...I think Spurrier will be out in a couple of years. Of course Snyder (sp) will just get some other supposed winner and they'll lose. I believe Davis will goto Dallas (Hambrick's a free agent) or perhaps the Bears. The Bears need it all right now. Well at least a QN and a RB. They got receiving.

Davis isnt a Spurrier back and you never know how he is going to rebound. Davis is 3 years older than Candidate and costs a ton more money. |

I think Spurrier will be gone before this season ends.

According to John Clayton, Davis will probably wind up with Houston.
My guess, in a couple years, Steve Spurrier will be one of the top coahces in the game.

Spurrier? I may be judging him too quickly...
...but it seems to me that he has a lot of learning to do in the pro game. As a coach in 2002 I thought he did poorly. - He obviously believed his 'Fun & Gun' approach would succeed in the NFL. He was secure enough in 'his' system to trust in the already failed NFL commodities Shane Mathews and Danny Weurffel. Their knowledge of the Spurrier system did them no good, they lit up a pre-season game or two and, by the regular season, looked like the backup quality players they are. - Shuffling QB's?? Continuity counts for something and Spurrier never tried to establish it. By midseason when the cause was clearly lost, he ought to have gone with Ramsay the remainder - good or bad - rather than shuffling back to either ex-Gator QBs. - QB shuffling or no, Spurrier's system simply didn't light up the NFL. I don't think it ever will, not in the ways Spurrier himself and his fans think it will. People are quick to label Spurrier a guru, an uber-innovator, a genius. I don't think so. He's not doing anything a lot of better pro coaches have done before him. Spurrier's greatest innovation was taking a pro passing scheme and turning it loose on the college ranks. NFL defenses aren't SEC defenses. - There were games last year where I got this gut feeling that Spurrier was simply overmatched. Maybe with a season under his belt, we actually will see some magic. I'm not anti-Spurrier by any means, I just think he is overrated. If he survives working under Dan Snyder, I think Spurrier can become a decent (not great) NFL coach. Can his ego handle that? How long before he decides being an 'OK' NFL coach just isn't the same as being an NCAA 'Diety' ? Whoever compared Spurrier to Pitino, I think that is a good comparison. Spurrier may be a real gem, but for now, I think he is really out of his element...
