HELP! My GIMP has fallen and it can't get up!

So, my old computer died and I, thus far, have no way of getting GIMP from my old computer to my new computer. So I just dl'd the latest version (2.2.13) and I'm trying to install it but I cannot figure out how!

It's been so long since I installed 2.2.10 that I don't remember how to do it. There isn't just some simple .exe. It's a process. Can anyone that uses GIMP please give me a hand?

A really cool guy hooked me up with PSP8 but I'm still more comfortable with GIMP and want to use it as I learn PSP8. Thanks to whomever can help.

is this on windows or a mac? if it's on windows, go to the link listed below to download the latest gimp for windows, plus the needed GTK+ runtime environment. the gimp is good.

Yep, like he says.. it is a 2 part thing, 1st download and install the GTK+ files and then install the other main program and then you are Gimping again.

Thanks. I have felt so disconnected without my computer or any graphics program to work on logos and such... not because I'm a text-based baseball game geek or anything like that.

So, as was stated above I download GTK+. That has an .exe and installs fine. Then I try to install GIMP. Again, no .exe file so I bust out the installation instructions:

2. You need to have installed GTK+ version 2.4.4 or better. Do not
try to use an older GTK+ version (1.2.x), it will not work.

ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. GTK+-2.x and friends can be installed side
by side with GTK+-1.2.

3. We require PangoFT2, a Pango backend that uses FreeType2. Make
sure you have FreeType2 and fontconfig installed before you
compile Pango. FreeType2 can be downloaded from
http://www.freetype.org/. Fontconfig from
http://freedesktop.org/fontconfig/. GIMP 2.2 depends on
freetype2 being newer than version 2.1.7. Older versions are
known to have bugs that seriously affect stability of The GIMP.

4. We use libart2. Grab the module libart_lgpl out of GNOME CVS or
fetch the tarball from
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/libart_lgpl/

5. You may want to install other third party libraries or programs that
are needed for some of the available plugins. We recommend to check
that the following libraries are installed: libpng, libjpeg,
libtiff, gimp-print (4.2.x), gtkhtml-2, libmng, librsvg, libwmf.

6. Configure the GIMP by running the `configure' script. You may want
to pass some options to it, see below.

7. Build the GIMP by running `make'. The use of GNU make is recommened.
If you need to tweak the build to make it work with other flavours
of make, we'd appreciate if you'd send us a patch with the changes.

8. Install the GIMP by running `make install'. In order to avoid clashes
with other versions of The GIMP, we install a binary called gimp-2.2.
By default there's also a link created so that you can type 'gimp'
to start gimp-2.2. If you have the 2.0 version installed, you should
still be able to run it using 'gimp-2.0'.

It seems I need a bit more than just GTK+ and GIMP, right?

How do I 'run' the 'configure' script? Or 'make' it? Or 'make istall'?

dude, you're making this much too hard.

the gimp installer you have is for linux, you need the one for windows. just download it from the site mentioned in an earlier post. it's a zipped exe file installer.

bah, i'll make it easy for you -- here's the link to the windows installer you need.

Both links for GTK+ and GIMP looked the same to me and got me cornfused. Grrr. I must be getting old.
