Players from Movies

Here is what I use. Since I dont want to be too unrealistic and use that one little kid on the Cubs with thr broken arm tossing 110 MPH, I made some players from movies and tried to do them realistically.

The Scout
SP - Steve Nebraska - Since I didnt want him on the Yanks I put him on Florida. Beckett, Penny, Burnett, Nebraska, hitters beware.

The Fan
CF - Bobby Rayburn - SF

For Love of the Game
SP - Billy Chapel

Major League
1B Clue Haywood - NYY - Giambi, Haywood and Johnson at 1B?, someone's gotta go

C - Jack Parkman - CHA

RF - Pedro Cerrano - CLE

SP - Rick Vaughn - CLE

CF - Willie Hayes - CLE

Is there anyone else that could relevantly play in the majors right now??

Yeah, it was called Back to the Minors.

i wouldn't recommend it. It was not very good. Unless you JUST LIKE baseball movies.

Summer Catch wasn't very good either. i have the dvd and if you look at the deleted scenes, it looks the like the story would have flowed better if they weren't cut out. But the movie as is just seems to jump.

They filmed Summer Catch down here in the city I live, they tore down the field they used for the Chatham team.

Oh yeah, don't forget MR - Jim Morris from The Rookie. The Rookie is one of the best baseball movies of all-time IMO.

Thought about Crash Davis, but since I havent seen Bull Durham in 10 years what kind of ratings would he have???

Should have thought of Baker and Sinski too

I didnt want to make Eddie Harris and MLIII wasnt even a consideration

I wouldn't make Crash Davis a star but a catcher who is fundamentally sound, great defense and a good situational hitter. I would make Roy Hobbs 18 years old and a pitcher. See what would of happened if he didn't get shot by that crazy lady. Would he of been a great pitcher who hit on days whenhe didn't pitch(like Ruth) I do have a question for you guys about the actual game. I am getting ready to start a franchise from the current season and I know that after each season the draft will consist of made up guys which is fine. I would like to involve some of the legends of the game though to see what they would do in modern times. For example after season 1 I would Like Teddy, Cobb, and Ruth etc to be in the draft. Is that possible? I know I can import them into free agents but how can I import a set of say 20 legends so that they go in the draft?

Sko Dog this was a great idea, i don't know why i didn't think of it. This sounds like it would be a good project. To gather a list of fictional ballplayers with scouting reports. i might have to give that a shot. i have several baseball movies.

And good call Giants44, i had forgotten about Bull Durham!

And speaking of baseball movies, i saw a movie maybe 6 or 7 years ago. On cable, i saw a movie about a scout who found this phenom pitcher. It's not The Scout, i bought this thinking it was the same movie. In this movie, the scout finds this guy pitching in Texas. And the pitcher is a brash, overemotional talent. The scout works for the California Angels i think. And the franchise is struggling, so the owner decides to call up the pitcher for publicity.
The scout tries to convince everybody he's not ready. But they send the pitcher out, amongst a lot of hype and fanfare. And he gets rocked!

Does anybody remember seeing this movie?

i had a career half finished with roy hobbs in ootp4. i kinda went all out. if you freeze frame the dvd when the judge is showing police photos of hobbs, there is a date on the photographs. it's july 16, 1924. so i worked on several suppositions. hobbs doesn't get shot (for whatever reason), he has a try-out the next day with the cubs and has a tremendous batting practice display similar to the one he had for the knights and the day after, july 18th, he's in the starting lineup for the cubs in rightfield, as a 19 year old.

as for the ratings, there is a guy who writes for espn.com's page 2 named bill simmons aka the sports guy. someone asked him in a reader mail column what he thought hobbs stats were for his season with the knights (and i dare ask who among us has pondered the same question). he went through all the particulars, hobbs not having any protection in the lineup, his lack of speed, memo paris' mojo, his ridiculously hot start and these are the numbers he guessed at-400 at bats, 140 hits, 24 doubles, 2 triples, 44 homers, 75 walks, 85 strikeouts. this may be a good template to start with, it's what i used. you can probably look up the link in simmons' archive section at espn.com, page 2.

i made hobbs brilliant in all categories to help with his development. i gave him a lot of leeway because after all, the guy's the natural.

I think he was asking for fictional players. Otherwise you could add all the Black Sox and Reds from Eight Men Out, Lou Gehrig in Pride of the Yankees, etc.

We can't forget about Moonlight Graham either. He was in Field of Dreams but his story was true and he was a real ballplayer. He played in one game for the Giants and never got to the plate and then retired and became a doctor. I am definitely going to sign him to my team and make sure he gets an at bat. I can see him now, standing in the batters box, just as the pitcher starts his wnd up, Graham winks...to make the pitcher think he knows something the pitcher doesn't. The he laces a ball towards the gap and stretches a doule into a triple and slides into third with his arms around and hugging the bag. There is also the Whammer who a young Roy Hobbs struck out. Apparently he played in Chicago but they never really gave his name. He looked like the representation of Babe Ruth. There is always Bump Bailey who died tragically, a great catch that almost was

Yeah Darkhorse... I know this stinkin' movie!! I hadn't thought about it in years... but it had Edward Almos (?) of Miami Vice fame... he was the scout... and you've got the rest right on... now if only we could remember the name of the movie.
