How to talk bonds out of retirement?

Hey all,
I started manager mode with the total minors rosters and at the beginning of the year, Barry Bonds told me he will retire. He is having a monster year again and will probably finish second in the mvp voting behind Thome. i would like to keep his services, see how many more records he can bring and finally get him a ring.
Does anyone know how to talk someone out of retiring? and if you don't, is there some file I can change a line of code so he doesnt wanna retire?
Thanks a bunch

Couldn't you just make him younger? By one yr or two? It'd be dishonest but theres no chance he's gonna retire next yr in real life, so who is gonna really care. I think it's up to you, if your conscience could handle that.

Yea, that's a problem... does he retire for everyone at the end of the 2003 season? or is it just your one league this one time?

If he is at the end of his contract sometimes if you give them a really good exentison They will not retire it doesn't always work but I have seen it work in OOTP 4 atleast

Bonds will only reply that he is in the middle of his contract so an extention doesn't work...I wonder what factors are used to have the retirement code kick in.....he's still under contract...he is putting up some great numbers....he's still under 40...yet the program has him retiring...I guess there is a mechanism where a player will retire at the top of his game and not wait until the end...

I'm the manager of the Giants, and he emailed me at the beginning of the first season saying he was going to retire. And just like you, he's having a monster of a year. Nothing you can do about it though.

interesting conclusion to this saga. Giants get swept by the A's in the world series. I go on to the next season, sign an extension as manager, on 1/26/2004 I look at the Free agents and there bonds is. A free agent! I immediatley signed him to a 1 year $3.5 million deal. Which is weird since he had a better deal than that and shouldnt have been a FA since he was signed for a couple more years after that season anyways. Oh well, I got him back!

Maybe he retired and then decided on a comeback?

Maybe he just wants to spend more time with his family or simply want to give the young guys a chance Off topic a bit but in OOTP5 are there any new retirement messages?
