1974 solo league - redraft

I drafted for the Padres during the first 15 or so rounds.

Somehow I ended up with the 1st pick Seems the computer likes the pitching, even though it was plentiful.

Round 1:

San Diego pick: C Johnny Bench
St. Louis pick: P Jon Matlack
Montreal pick: P Andy Messersmith
New York (A) pick: P Fergie Jenkins
Baltimore pick: 3B Mike Schmidt
Atlanta pick: P Catfish Hunter
Cincinnati pick: P Rudy May
Los Angeles pick: P Nolan Ryan
Chicago (N) pick: P Buzz Capra
Philadelphia pick: P Bart Johnson
Pittsburgh pick: P Bert Blyleven
Milwaukee pick: P Tommy John
Texas pick: P Gaylord Perry
Detroit pick: RF Reggie Jackson
San Francisco pick: C Carlton Fisk
Kansas City pick: P Ross Grimsley
New York (N) pick: P Jim Barr
Boston pick: P Bob Forsch
Minnesota pick: P Vida Blue
Oakland pick: P Jim Rooker
Houston pick: 2B Joe Morgan
Chicago (A) pick: P Andy Hassler
California pick: 2B Rod Carew
Cleveland pick: P Bruce Dalcanton

After the draft I turned on manager mode, and my owner told me to make the playoffs in '74. Doesn't he know only 4 of 24 teams make the playoffs!?!?!

Padres finish 71-91, Johnny Bench went .270, 35, 87.

Orioles beat Braves in 5 games for the Series.

NL MVP: C.Fisk (SFN) .330, 31, 98
AL MVP: D. Allen (CHA) .326, 38, 120

NL Cy: A. Messersmith (MON) 22-9, 2.75
AL Cy: R. Reed (BAL) 18-5, 1.89

Cubs #1 pick Buzz Capra had a career ending injury after 10 starts.

Denise dumped me in September, right after the Padres were eliminated. I met Bri in October. Padres owner told me I might not get an extension

Whew, got a 2 year extension (playing in hard level).

Padres (#2 pick) select Dennis Eckersley in the '75 rookie draft. I let him develop in the minors, while the major league team started slow.

Got canned at the end of May with a 20-29 (91-120 overall) record, there goes all my work building the minors up. Now I have to wait and hope to catch on with another team in '76.

I bet the Padres become a dynasty in 2 years. Too bad I won't be around to enjoy it.
